Hongdae outdoor bar with automatic awning, QR ordering: Kkoko Land

An honest review of Kkoko Land, an outdoor bar in Hongdae

My daughter wanted new clothes over the weekend, so we headed to the Hongdae shopping street — and ended up at Kkoko Land, an outdoor bar with such a nice atmosphere..!

You'll need to walk a bit from Exit 3 of Hongik University Station to reach Kkoko Land. There's no dedicated parking lot, so I'd recommend public transit — if you're driving, use a nearby public parking lot 😃

Interior and outdoor tables with a Bali-like vibe

Here's the inside of Kkoko Land, the outdoor bar in Hongdae..! The location looked familiar somehow — turns out it used to be a Sanrio café before it became Kkoko Land.

It has a bit of a Southeast Asian, almost-Bali feel, and also a bit of a countryside cabin vibe — the atmosphere is honestly great..!^^ There are also tables indoors and on the 2nd floor. With the weather being nice and cool lately, sitting at an outdoor table felt amazing ☺️

Automatic awning, a big screen, and the wait

Kkoko Land's outdoor area has an automatic awning that opens and closes the canopy. Even if it rains, it's a nice spot for a drink with atmosphere. There are big screens dotted around too, so watching baseball while doing chimaek here just hits different 🍺❣️

There were a lot of foreign customers too, and a waiting line formed pretty quickly. We got lucky and were seated right away, but if we'd been a bit later, we probably would've had to wait.

You could watch the chicken being grilled directly over charcoal — as the meat cooked up nicely and the smoky aroma drifted over, I suddenly got so hungry haha

What about the restrooms?

One of the best things was that the men's and women's restrooms are separate and really clean..! Each stall has its own sink, and the mirrors were big too — I genuinely liked it. ㅎ

QR code ordering and the menu lineup

You can order from the menu using the QR code attached to the table. The ordering process is super simple and easy. The jjokgalbi (bone-in short rib) was sold out that day, which was a bummer ㅠㅠ There were lots of charcoal-grilled chicken barbecue varieties and plenty of side dishes, so it was easy to order to your taste. They also sell hetbahn (instant rice) and dinner rolls, which would go great with the seasoned barbecue too.

Welcome drink and a plate with three sauces

Right after ordering, they brought over a welcome drink and some snacks. The welcome drink was refreshing and delicious. It tasted a bit like mango juice but with layers of different fruit flavors — it completely quenched my thirst.

They also set out a small plate with divided compartments, giving us three different sauces..! The sauces were spicy, sweet, and absolutely delicious 😋

How was the kalbaengi?

Among the dishes we ordered, the kalbaengi (chilled noodles mixed with sea snails) came out first. It's a mixed noodle dish made with kalguksu noodles and golbaengi (sea snails), and the portion was seriously generous..!

The visuals were insane❣️ Thick kalguksu noodles with big chunks of sea snail, plus cabbage and various vegetables mixed in — filling and healthy at the same time.

The noodles were chewy with great texture, and the sauce was sweet and tangy — I lost myself eating it haha. I completely forgot to take a photo of just the noodles..😅 I bet it'd also be great to order hetbahn rice and mix it into the leftover sauce..!

Salted grilled chicken barbecue and paired with green onion kimchi

The salted grilled chicken barbecue came out too. One piece of chicken was absolutely huge!

A chicken leg with a subtle smoky char — the meat was soft and juicy while the skin was crispy, so good😃

I never expected the pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi) that came with it to pair this well with the chicken..! Eating them together cut the greasiness and left a refreshing, deeply savory taste in the mouth.

The big chunk of chicken breast wasn't dry at all — it was full of juice and clean-tasting, and dipping it in the sauce kept me reaching for more 😋

Sunset outdoor bar atmosphere and the baseball broadcast

As the sun started to set, colorful lights came on and the atmosphere got even more charming and atmospheric.

Watching a baseball game with a cold beer in hand felt like pure bliss..! The tables are spacious and there's plenty of room, so it'd also be perfect for a work dinner or a group gathering.

We cleared every plate down to the last bite haha. Great atmosphere, great taste — I spent a romantic evening at Kkoko Land 🐓, the outdoor bar in Hongdae ❤︎

In this not-too-hot weather, Kkoko Land in Hongdae is such a great spot to visit for a cool, easy round of chimaek! Highly recommend it 🍺
