In short
Sonamu Sikdang Gimcheon Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Apo-eup, Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, specialising in seokswe bulgogi (pork grilled on a wire rack over charcoal briquettes). The order was two servings of seasoned domestic female pork, a chive pancake and steamed rice, served with a homemade-soybean doenjang stew and banchan the kitchen says it makes fresh daily. The smoky flavour was exactly as remembered from the first visit, and the meal again ended completely stuffed.

Why go back to Sonamu Sikdang in Apo, Gimcheon?
Today I went back to Sonamu Sikdang, a famous charcoal-grilled bulgogi restaurant in Apo near Gimcheon Innovation City 🫶🏻 I'd been here once before with my boyfriend, and the smoky bulgogi we had that time stuck with me for a long time ❗️
What I loved especially was the combination of that charcoal smoke and the well-marinated meat ••• I suddenly craved that flavor again after a while, haha 🤭 so I dragged my boyfriend back for a revisit. Since I had such a good memory of the place, I went in hoping it would be just as good this time too ❤️

The exterior alone already gives off proper local-favorite vibes 👍

The inside is bigger than I expected with plenty of tables. There's also a room-style space in the back, so it seems good for family gatherings or group visits.
What we ordered and the banchan made fresh daily
At Sonamu Sikdang we ordered two servings of seasoned female pork grilled over charcoal, chive pancake, and steamed rice. They say the banchan (side dishes) are made fresh every day, and it really did feel warm and tidy like a home-cooked meal from your mom ❤️

You could tell each banchan was made with care, and there were so many varieties, all of them delicious 👍 Honestly you could get full just eating the rice and side dishes alone, haha

Is the chive pancake side worth adding?
Not long after ordering, the chive pancake came out first. Fresh off the pan, it was warm with a crispy edge — so good!
There was plenty of chive packed in, so every bite had that subtle fragrant chive flavor, and the pancake itself wasn't too thick so it stayed crispy 👍 Crunchy outside, slightly moist inside — dipped in soy sauce it got even more savory and salty, and I kept reaching for more, haha

If you like chive pancake, definitely order it as a side ❗️
How smoky is the charcoal-grilled seasoned pork bulgogi?
The moment the grilled bulgogi arrived, the charcoal smoke hit right away. Since it's domestic female pork grilled over charcoal briquettes, the smoky flavor in the meat was seriously insane ~~ 🔥

The seasoning was spicy with great umami — so good. This full-on smoky grilled bulgogi is something you could never replicate at home ••• 🔥

And the rice here is genuinely great too 🍚 Chewy and fluffy, it disappeared instantly alongside the grilled bulgogi like a rice thief ...haha

The homemade doenjang stew that comes with the rice
Ordering the steamed rice also came with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), which was genuinely delicious too ❗️ They said they use homemade doenjang paste, which explains why it was so good ••• 🤭 Savory and deeply umami, it was great eaten together with the rice.

The meat is tasty on its own, but wrapping it in lettuce made it even better 👍

Verdict after a second visit to Sonamu Sikdang
I loved it so much last time that I came back, and this time again it was so good I ate myself full to bursting, haha. From the smoky charcoal-grilled bulgogi to the tidy, tasty banchan and the doenjang stew, everything about the meal was satisfying 💛
If you're near Gimcheon Innovation City or Gumi and looking for a great local spot for smoky charcoal-grilled bulgogi, I really recommend Sonamu Sikdang in Apo 🫶
