Window-seat knife-cut noodles and yulinji at Cheonghwawon, Jongno
In short
Cheonghwawon Daehangno Branch is a Taiwanese-style knife-cut noodle restaurant near Hyehwa Station Exit 4 in Jongno, Seoul. Before a weekend play, the writer and her husband sat at a first-floor window seat and shared beef knife-cut noodles, the mixed noodle dish yubaldomyeon, and crispy yulinji, all in portions generous enough to fill the whole table. With hearty portions and gentle prices, it's a great sit-down course to share before or after a Daehangno play.

For a weekend outing, my husband and I went on a Daehangno date after a long while. After booking a play, and before watching it, we visited Cheonghwawon, a Taiwanese-style knife-cut noodle restaurant known as a Daehangno favorite, as a sponsored visit.

Near Hyehwa Station Exit 4, perfect for before or after a play
Located near Hyehwa Station Exit 4, it was a perfect spot on the route for a meal after a play date. The clean exterior and sleek interior made it feel more like a restaurant than a Chinese food joint.
First-floor window seats and second-floor atmosphere
Walking inside, the clean interior welcomed us. The place is run across two floors, boasting a spacious and pleasant setting.
The second-floor seating in particular was much roomier and more open, making it a great atmosphere not just for weekend dates or gatherings but also for eating alone comfortably. We chose to sit by the sunny window seat on the first floor for our meal.

Menu and how to order
Every seat had a tablet ordering device attached, so we could conveniently order while browsing colorful photos and descriptions of the menu — a nice touch.
Looking through the menu, you could choose your broth to taste between regular beef noodle broth and a spicy Sichuan-style beef noodle broth. Besides knife-cut noodles, there were also dim sum, rice bowls, fried dishes, and tofu-wrapped dishes on offer.

I thought it would be a great place to visit with a group, ordering a variety of dishes to share.

We ordered the signature beef knife-cut noodles, the mixed knife-cut noodle dish yubaldomyeon, and crispy yulinji.

How were the beef knife-cut noodles, yubaldomyeon, and yulinji?
When the dishes arrived shortly after, the portions were generous enough to fill the whole table.
First, the signature beef knife-cut noodles had that chewy, springy texture unique to knife-cut noodles, with a deep, rich broth soaked right in — every bite drew an exclamation of delight.

Not just the noodles, but the generously sized chunks of meat were another charm point unique to this restaurant's beef noodles. I recommend scooping up a big spoonful with the broth ~
Next, the yubaldomyeon was a special treat where the piquant seasoning and the noodles' texture blended beautifully, and since it isn't served in a hot broth, I thought it would be even more enjoyable to eat on a hot summer day.
The crispy fried yulinji was topped generously with tangy sauce and crunchy vegetables, boasting a savory yet clean flavor.

In summary
Overall, given the generous portions, the price felt very light, making this a Daehangno knife-cut noodle restaurant that nailed both value and satisfaction. I'd recommend visiting with several people, ordering a variety of dishes, and sharing them all together!!!
If you want to round off a satisfying date course after enjoying a fun play in Daehangno, or if you're craving chewy, deep-flavored Chinese noodle dishes, I definitely recommend stopping by Cheonghwawon! 🍜✨
