On a day when I was craving a filling meal in Yangsan, I went for lunch at Deodo Gejang, a restaurant near Tongdosa known for laying out a whole table of rice-thief dishes. With warm pot rice paired with crab, octopus, shrimp and abalone jang, it turned out to be quite a hearty meal.

6 minutes by car from Tongdosa — how's the parking?
Deodo Gejang, a crab restaurant in Yangsan, sits about 6 minutes by car from Tongdosa Temple, making it a convenient stop before or after visiting the temple. It's easy to reach by car, and with plenty of parking space, there was little stress about parking even on a weekend or with the whole family.

Walking inside, the space felt clean and spacious overall. The tables were spaced comfortably apart with no cramped feeling, making it a good spot for a family meal or dining with parents.
The menu at Deodo Gejang and what we ordered

Sticking with just one type of crab jang would be good too, but this time we ordered the assorted jang nutrition pot rice set for two, which lets you try several kinds of seafood jang at once.

You can actually see the freshly steamed pot rice being made right near the entrance.

A hearty table starting with the side dishes
After we sat down and ordered, the basic side dishes came out first — a neat lineup of dishes that go well with a Korean meal.

Blue crab doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), bulgogi, kimchi pancake, grilled fish and more~ Even before the main dish arrived, there was plenty to nibble on with rice, and with the assorted jang and pot rice as the centerpiece plus all these side dishes, the table felt even more abundant!

What's in the assorted jang set?
The assorted jang set at Deodo Gejang, a restaurant near Tongdosa in Yangsan, ranged from the regular crab jang ~ to Jeju yellow crab, plus octopus jang, shrimp jang and abalone jang all together.

With spicy marinated crab~ soy crab~ and more all piled on one plate, it looked hearty from the very first glance. If you already like crab jang or seafood jang, this is a great set-up because you don't have to settle for just one kind~♡ The spicy marinated crab had really great depth of flavor, and the soy crab was... well, need I say more, haha. A true rice thief!! T.T

Jeju yellow crab jang
Jeju yellow crab jang has its own distinct flavor too — a bit richer and chewier, in a good way. I've always liked yellow crab jang myself, haha. Piling the crab meat on top of the rice, the savory, slightly salty flavor came through nicely between the soft crab meat! The seasoning wasn't too strong, so it went well with the warm pot rice, and you could really feel the moist texture of the crab meat.

Shrimp jang, abalone jang, octopus jang
The shrimp jang had a nice springy bite to the shrimp meat, with the soy sauce seasoning soaked in subtly. The abalone jang stood out for its chewy yet tender texture, and eating it with rice added a rich, savory flavor.
And the octopus jang had a lively, chewy octopus texture that offered a different kind of fun compared to the other seafood jang. Alternating between crab, octopus, shrimp and abalone, even though they're all soy-sauce-based, each has its own texture and flavor, so it never got boring.
A perfect match with the nutrition pot rice ♡
The nutrition pot rice that came with the seafood jang was also great to enjoy warm. Scooping the freshly steamed pot rice into a bowl and topping it with crab meat, shrimp, or abalone — freshly cooked rice really does suit this kind of dish~!

Gently picking apart the crab meat and mixing it into the rice, then crab-shell rice — T.T I just can't resist ♡ Piling on a little of each kind of jang meant the flavor never got one-note, and there was fun in picking whatever you were in the mood for. Deodo Gejang, a restaurant near Tongdosa in Yangsan — officially a great crab jang spot in Yangsan~!

Finishing off with pot-scorched rice
As we were finishing the rice, we also got to enjoy the nurungji (scorched rice) made by pouring hot water into the pot. Ending the meal with that nutty, savory nurungji made for a clean finish~

Deodo Gejang, a crab restaurant in Yangsan, is a place where you can enjoy not just crab jang but octopus, shrimp and abalone jang all at once, paired with warm nutrition pot rice. Being close to Tongdosa made it a good meal stop during a Yangsan trip, and the spacious, clean interior and roomy parking were also convenient.
