Friends' gathering set with jamón salad in Gwangju Suwan: Bueokgan
In short
Bueokgan Suwan Branch is a Western restaurant in the Suwan district of Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, serving salads, pasta, pizza and risotto. For a gathering with friends, the set menu brought shrimp anchovy oil pasta, truffle mushroom pizza and a jamón-topped salad, and the salad kept the meal from feeling too heavy between the two richer dishes. With roomy gaps between tables and a quiet room, Bueokgan Suwan Branch works well when several people eat together.

I was looking for a nice-atmosphere Western restaurant in Gwangju's Suwan district and ended up at Bueokgan Suwan Branch — writing up my review now! Bueokgan is a restaurant serving everything from salads to pasta, pizza, and risotto, and the vibe is so calm and pretty that it works for dates as well as friend gatherings!

Table spacing and noise level at Bueokgan Suwan Branch
Overall, the tables at Bueokgan Suwan Branch had plenty of space between them, which made it easy to chat while eating! It felt more like a proper restaurant than a casual eatery, and you could tell every detail of the interior had been thought through.
The interior was so pretty that I ended up taking photos while eating! The warm, cozy interior design plus the greenery visible through the big windows really elevated the whole atmosphere 🤍
What the set menu includes for a group
Shrimp anchovy oil pasta Truffle mushroom pizza Jamón-topped salad

We ordered shrimp anchovy oil pasta, truffle mushroom pizza, and a jamón-topped salad! Ordering as a set menu is way more reasonable than ordering everything separately. With the set, you get drinks with almost no extra charge, so I'd definitely recommend going the set-menu route!

Shrimp anchovy oil pasta
The shrimp anchovy pasta had shrimp in it, and the savory, salty flavor from the anchovy really came through in this oil pasta! If you like oil-based pastas, this is a solid pick. The shrimp were big and had that nice bouncy texture!!

Jamón-topped salad
With jamón added, the salad had more of a savory, salty edge than a light salad usually does! Eating this salad alongside the heavier pasta and pizza made the whole meal feel much cleaner and more balanced :)

Truffle mushroom pizza
The truffle mushroom pizza was the dish I was most looking forward to — I love truffle, so anyone who's into truffle will love this pizza. Since it was a friend gathering, we split the pizza, and it seems like a good one to order for get-togethers where you can share!
Is Bueokgan Suwan Branch good for a group gathering?
The food is great, but the atmosphere is what really makes Bueokgan Suwan a good choice for an important get-together in the Suwan district! It's not loud, the menu is varied, and it works well when visiting with a group 💕
