Gwangju Italian restaurant for truffle mushroom pizza: Bueokgan

Today I visited Bueokgan Suwan Branch, a lovely Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere in Suwan District, Gwangju!

From the outside, Bueokgan was already so pretty, with its cozy green awning and clean brick exterior!! I actually visited before, but I kept thinking about the truffle mushroom pizza I had then, so I had to come back!

The interior had such a cozy yet sophisticated feel! It was completely packed even around 2 p.m., so I took these photos when there was no one around.

The atmosphere is so nice that it would be great for a date in Suwan District, Gwangju, and it is also just right for coming with friends or family, haha.

Menu and What We Ordered

There were lots of sides as well as couple set menus, so it was easy to choose! We picked the abalone cream risotto, kung pao chicken pilaf, shrimp rosé pasta, and truffle mushroom pizza :)

Abalone Cream Risotto

This abalone cream risotto was full of rich abalone aroma! The abalone flavor and cream sauce came together for a deep, nutty taste. Eating it with the crisp topping on top of the risotto gave it another whole flavor.

This is a must-try for anyone who loves smooth cream dishes or wants to try a more unusual risotto.

Kung Pao Chicken Pilaf with Reduced Spice

Here is the kung pao chicken pilaf, topped with a whole, big chicken thigh!

When you pull apart the crispy, nutty grilled chicken thigh into easy-to-eat pieces and take a bite with the savory stir-fried pilaf? Such a perfect combination.

I am really bad with spicy food, so although it is normally made a little spicy, I asked for it to be as mild as possible. It was not spicy at all and had such an addictive flavor that I just kept eating it.

Smooth Shrimp Rosé Pasta

The shrimp rosé pasta arrived too, generously filled with plump shrimp!

I was worried it might be spicy, but the rosé sauce was smooth, not spicy at all, and so lovely and mild.

The rosé sauce itself was so rich and delicious that it coated the noodles well, and I could eat it all the way through without getting tired of it! It was even better when I made sure to have the rich cream sauce and plump shrimp together!

The Truffle Mushroom Pizza That Brought Me Back

Today’s main event, ta-da! This is the truffle mushroom pizza, full of fragrant truffle and mushroom aromas. This is exactly what a mushroom pizza should look like, right?!

The mushroom pizza crust was loaded with chewy mushrooms and cheese, and every time I lifted a slice, the truffle aroma spread out..! Can you see that cheese pull??

Anyone who does not like mushrooms? You have to try mushroom pizza. Bye-bye, mushroom prejudice 👋 It will disappear right away. Make sure you get the truffle mushroom pizza!!

The crust was still chewy, and once again I was thinking, can the mushroom-and-pizza combination really be this delicious? I enjoyed it so much. The crust is chewy, so you can enjoy every last bit right to the edge. You really have to try the mushroom pizza at Bueokgan Suwan Branch 🤍
