Hello everyone ~ let me introduce Mayway, a newly opened favorite spot in Cheomdan! 🍜
It's a new Chinese restaurant near Lotte Mart in Cheomdan, and they're running a pretty generous opening event :-)
Where is Mayway, and what are the hours and parking?

Mayway is a Chinese restaurant on Cheomdangangbyeon-ro 87beon-gil in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, open daily from 11am to 10pm. 🅿️ There's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to park along the nearby streets. 🚗
Mayway opening event: 1,000 won tangsuyuk and a cash draw

Inside Mayway: comfortable enough for solo diners
The inside of Mayway was clean and comfortable. The tables had decent spacing, which made it good for a lunchtime meal, and overall it had that classic Chinese restaurant feel without being too much!
It's a great spot to visit with friends or family, and comfortable enough for a lunch that I think solo dining would work well too :-)
What we ordered at Mayway and what it cost

The sweet potato fritters are given out complimentary by default, but they were so sweet and delicious that I ended up ordering more separately (they're also sold as a side menu item)
Mayway's self-serve bar: pickled radish, onion and kimchi
What I especially liked about Mayway was the self-serve bar — you can help yourself to the basic side dishes or extras you want while eating, which was really convenient.
When you're eating Chinese food, things like pickled radish, onion, and kimchi actually matter quite a bit haha. It was nice being able to grab as much as I needed ~~~ Browsing the self-serve bar while waiting for the food was fun too.
Stone-griddle jjajang with squid: how thick is the sauce?
And finally, the dish we ordered! Mayway has become word-of-mouth famous as a stone-griddle jjajang spot in Cheomdan within just a month of opening, so we had to try the stone-griddle jjajang as our main dish haha.
The main dish of this meal was the stone-griddle jjajang!!! It comes out with the noodles on a hot stone plate, so it looked different from regular jjajangmyeon right from the start. As soon as it arrived, warm steam was rising off it, and just looking at it made my mouth water >< haha
I also liked that since it's served on a stone plate, it stays warm until the very last bite. The jjajang sauce blended really well with the noodles, and eating bite after bite, I was reminded that Chinese food really is all about jjajangmyeon. It was much thicker than regular jjajang and packed with seafood including squid, so it was a really satisfying dish overall.
Sweet potato fritters, free and worth ordering again
The combination of the sweet potato's natural sweetness and the crispy batter made it perfect to pick at between bites of the main dish .. 🍠💛 Since the Chinese food overall was salty and rich in flavor, the sweetness of the fritters felt refreshing in between?!
Tangsuyuk half order at Mayway
Just jjajangmyeon alone felt like it might be a bit lacking, so we also ordered the half-size tangsuyuk! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, it went perfectly with the jjajangmyeon >_< You really can't skip the tangsuyuk pairing with jjajangmyeon haha 🥩✨
Since it's a half size, it wasn't too much even when ordering it alongside other dishes. Taking a bite of the stone-griddle jjajang and then a piece of tangsuyuk added a sweet, crispy contrast that kept me reaching for more.
Dessert, takeout leftovers and final verdict on Mayway
Mayway serves sweet strawberry ice cream for dessert, which we enjoyed, and we asked to pack the leftover tangsuyuk to take home. The staff was also friendly, which made the Cheomdan Mayway experience even better.
