Inside Sinjuokmi: dining room and tablet ordering
Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch had comfortable spacing between tables, so it was nice for a relaxed meal, and the whole place felt well kept — good for a family meal or a casual lunch with friends. Ordering was easy through the tablet, so I could take my time browsing the menu and picking what I wanted. Being able to order right away without calling a staff member over felt convenient, especially during a busy lunch rush.

Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch has a wide range of options — not just standard gukbap (soup with rice) but special nourishing dishes and sundae too, so there was plenty to choose from.

What we ordered: spicy fern sundae-guk and a half plate of homemade assorted sundae
I wanted something filling that day, so I ordered the special spicy fern sundae-guk, and added a half plate of homemade assorted sundae to share alongside it. The sundae-guk alone would probably have been filling enough, but I was curious about the homemade sundae too, so I ordered both — and in the end, I was glad I did.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Sinjuokmi
The basic side dishes that came out were also neatly prepared. The kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad) suited my taste especially well. Side dish flavor quietly matters a lot when eating gukbap, and the crunchy texture and well-balanced seasoning went nicely with the soup. The self-serve bar was also kept clean, so I could easily grab whatever side dishes or extras I needed. Overall, it felt like care was put into managing the restaurant, not just the food, which was satisfying.

How does the spicy fern sundae-guk broth taste?
The special spicy fern sundae-guk I ordered lived up to its name — a spicy broth combined with fern (gosari) and mustard-leaf sundae. When I first tasted the broth, I liked that it wasn't just spicy for the sake of it; there was real depth to the broth itself. With every spoonful, the rich broth flavor lingered in my mouth, and it went well with rice mixed in too.

Eating a warm gukbap at lunchtime felt filling all the way through. Since the broth is spicy, it seemed like it would also suit people looking for a hangover-cure meal. What I liked most, though, was the amount of innards and sundae. The bowl was packed quite generously, which was clearly different from a gukbap that's mostly broth.

There was a good variety of innards, plus plenty of homemade sundae, so just this one bowl was very filling. The sundae wasn't overly soft or mushy — it kept a good texture that tasted great with the broth. Having gosari and mustard-leaf sundae together also gave it a slightly different flavor from a typical sundae-guk, which I liked.

Is a half plate of homemade assorted sundae enough for two?
The separately ordered half plate of homemade assorted sundae was even more satisfying than I expected. It came with liver and lung so I could pick and choose depending on my mood, and the sundae itself was neatly prepared too. The sundae in the gukbap was tasty, but the separately ordered assorted sundae was what I liked especially. It didn't have the strong off smell sundae sometimes has — it was clean-tasting with a chewy texture that kept me reaching for more. The liver and lung went well with the gukbap too, and although I thought a 'half plate' might not be enough, it turned out to be plenty for two people to share.

When looking for lunch in Suwan District, gukbap or other Korean dishes usually come to mind first, and this time being able to enjoy both a nourishing sundae-guk and homemade sundae at Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch made the meal even more satisfying. It also seems like a good option for anyone looking for a special nourishing dish, and if you're a fan of sundae, I'd recommend ordering the homemade assorted sundae alongside it. If you especially love a spicy, deep broth, I'd recommend the special spicy fern sundae-guk.

Is Sinjuokmi good for solo diners, families or a lunch meet-up?
The restaurant itself is spacious and clean, so it seemed like a good fit for all kinds of visits — solo dining, family meals, or a lunch date with friends. Tablet ordering made choosing the menu easy, and I liked that the self-serve bar was tidy and well set up. The food seemed to be prepared right after ordering, so I could enjoy it hot, and with both the broth and the fillings being generous, it felt like a hearty meal for the price.

With mornings and evenings cooling down but daytime still warm these days, a hot bowl of gukbap was a great way to eat well. The broth's deep, spicy flavor in particular seemed like it would work well as a hangover cure too. If you're looking for a hearty restaurant while exploring Suwan District's food scene, this place is worth a visit. Being able to try both gukbap and homemade sundae in one place also made choosing what to order more fun.

Personally, of everything I ate that day, the deep, spicy broth of the special spicy fern sundae-guk with its generous innards and homemade sundae was the most memorable. Adding the separately ordered half plate of homemade assorted sundae made the table feel quite full. The kkakdugi and mu-saengchae side dishes also paired well with the gukbap, and I enjoyed the meal to the very last bite.
