While looking for a good Korean snack (bunsik) restaurant in Yongsan, I found Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch :) I usually love tteokbokki, fried snacks, gimbap, and sundae, and sometimes I just want all of them at once haha. This time I ordered the Hyeonseonine Combo Set (kkobuli fish cake), which lets you try a bunch of menu items together at this popular Yongsan spot!

If you're going for weekend lunch, use CatchTable
If you're planning to visit on a weekend for lunch, I'd recommend using CatchTable! I went during weekend lunch hours, and sure enough, it was packed haha. A lot of people go restaurant-hunting in Yongsan on weekends, so lunchtime can get crowded — it's worth checking CatchTable in advance.

That said, the restaurant is bigger than expected with lots of tables, and even with lots of customers, turnover seemed fast, so even if there's a wait, it shouldn't be too long haha. Snack food restaurants tend to serve dishes quickly and meals don't take long, so customers seemed to cycle through pretty fast!

The menu and what I ordered
Here's the menu. Ordering just one dish felt like not enough, but ordering everything separately seemed like way too much food, so I went with the Hyeonseonine Combo Set (kkobuli fish cake), which lets you eat several menu items together. I liked that Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch lets you enjoy a variety of Korean snack dishes, not just tteokbokki.

What's at the self-serve bar
There was a self-serve bar set up on one side of the restaurant! It had salt, soy sauce, pickled radish, frying crumbs and more, so you could take as much as you needed. If you like dipping fried snacks lightly in salt, grab some there, and there's soy sauce too, so you can season things to your taste :)

There were also frying crumbs at the self-serve bar. Sprinkling a bit on top of the tteokbokki adds a nice crunchy texture — really good haha. Being able to grab what you need from the self-serve bar whenever you're running low was really convenient.

The full Hyeonseonine set spread
The whole Hyeonseonine set came out all at once!

Assorted fried snacks
This set came with assorted fried snacks, which I tried alongside the tteokbokki. Fried snacks are good plain, but they're best dipped lightly in the tteokbokki sauce. The crispy fried snacks paired with the sweet-spicy sauce went really well together. Note that this particular set doesn't allow swapping the fried snacks, so if there's a specific one you really want, keep that in mind before ordering! Still, being able to eat several kinds of fried snacks together with tteokbokki felt like a proper full Korean snack spread :)

Mild tteokbokki
The sauce coated the rice cakes well, so I found myself scooping up sauce along with each piece. When tteokbokki is too spicy or intense, I usually stop after just a few bites, but ordering the mild version made it easier to enjoy alongside the other snack dishes without feeling overwhelmed.

Sundae
The sundae (Korean blood sausage) came with organ meat too haha. It was good dipped lightly in the tteokbokki sauce, and also good on its own for the flavor of the sundae itself.

Mini gimbap
The mini gimbap (bite-sized seaweed rice rolls) was especially easy to eat in one bite, which made it great alongside the tteokbokki. It's much tastier dipped lightly in tteokbokki sauce than eaten plain.

3 skewers of kkobuli fish cake
I also tried the 3 skewers of kkobuli (curly) fish cake haha. The curly shape is cute just to look at, and eating it with the warm fish cake broth went really well with the tteokbokki! Having a piece of fish cake between bites of tteokbokki cleansed the palate thanks to the broth, so I kept reaching for more lol. With 3 skewers, it was easy to share, and also just right as a simple side dish :)
