Pohang seafood restaurant with icy mulhoe broth: Ppwang Mulhoe
In short
Ppwang Mulhoe is a seafood restaurant near Yeongildae Beach in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. I ordered squid mulhoe, half-and-half mulhoe, and a three-combo sashimi rice bowl, then mixed in the slushy ice broth; the self-serve squid soup and tteokbokki were tasty too. Verdict: A cool, filling stop for mulhoe by Yeongildae.

Ppwang Mulhoe Near Yeongildae Beach

Mulhoe (chilled raw-fish soup) is an absolute must when you come to Pohang! It was close to the sea, so it was easy to get to, and there were plenty of menu choices beyond squid mulhoe, making it a nice place to choose according to your taste. Here’s my visit to Ppwang Mulhoe, a great mulhoe spot to stop by on a Pohang trip :)
Ppwang Mulhoe Exterior and Parking

It is a two-story white building between Tteudon and BHC, but I passed right by because it was hidden behind Tteudon’s four-story building, so I had to circle back around.

The place with the pink squid is Ppwang Mulhoe!!
There is dedicated parking right in front of the restaurant, but it only fits about five cars. Yeongildae Beach Dumuchi Public Parking Lot is in front, and even the nearby beachside was being used for parking. There were loads of spaces, but it was a weekend and every spot was full!! Even the roadside parking was FULL.... After circling around a few times, we luckily found an empty spot and parked right away.
A Spacious Interior with Private Rooms and Outdoor Seating
There are waiting benches out front too, and by the time we finished eating and left, a few people were waiting. The restaurant is quite spacious with lots of tables, so it would work well for family meals or groups. There are indoor private-room seats and outdoor seats as well. Eating outside on a cool day would be full of atmosphere.

Each table has a kiosk, so we could take our time looking over the menu and ordering.

Unlimited Self-Serve Bar and Squid Soup
There is a self-serve side-dish bar, so you need to pick up the basic side dishes yourself.

I loved that there was such a wide variety of side dishes and that they were unlimited.

There is tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and chicken nuggets for children too, and the tteokbokki was so good... haha. Exactly the kind of tteokbokki I love.

The squid soup is at the self-serve bar too!! You take a bowl portioned with squid and bean sprouts on the right, then ladle the broth yourself from the left. The broth was seriously delicious, with the refreshing bean sprouts and the seafood aroma of squid.

The side dishes we brought back, just enough to eat.

There are ♥pink aprons♥ throughout the restaurant and ♥high chairs♥ by the entrance.
Squid Mulhoe, Half-and-Half Mulhoe, and a Three-Combo Sashimi Rice Bowl

Ppwang Mulhoe has a varied menu, from squid mulhoe to spotted flounder mulhoe and half-and-half mulhoe. We ordered squid mulhoe, half-and-half mulhoe with squid and flounder, and a three-combo sashimi rice bowl with squid, flounder, and assorted fish. There are many other squid dishes too, including squid scallion pancake, seasoned squid, and whole boiled squid.
Mix with Sauce First, Then Add the Slushy Ice Broth
Pohang mulhoe is not the usual broth-heavy kind. Apparently, you first mix the sauce, sashimi, and vegetables thoroughly and eat it that way, then add the slushy ice broth for a different flavor. Add thin wheat noodles or rice, and one bowl becomes pretty filling. The combination of cold mulhoe and warm rice worked really well too.

The squid was nicely chewy and delicious. I wanted to order squid sashimi on its own and eat moreㅠㅠㅠ The vegetables were fresh too, and they went well with the tangy sauce.
We were too full to eat it, but they also offer fried squid through a review event!! I still regret missing it.
When You Want Mulhoe at Yeongildae
Mulhoe is one of those dishes you cannot leave out of a Pohang trip. Ppwang Mulhoe is close to Yeongildae Beach, and I liked having varied choices such as squid mulhoe, spotted flounder mulhoe, and half-and-half mulhoe.
- People looking for a good mulhoe restaurant near Yeongildae
- People who love squid mulhoe
- Families or groups looking for somewhere to eat together
- People who want a proper bowl of Pohang mulhoe while traveling
If you are visiting Pohang and want to see the sea and enjoy a refreshing bowl of mulhoe too, I think Ppwang Mulhoe would be a nice place to stop by :)
