I heard there was a great-vibe fusion Chinese restaurant in up-and-coming, hip Sindang that's perfect for a date course, so I rushed over to demolish some mapo tofu and more!
Let's get into my honest review of Lucky Dragon JCB, a Sindang izakaya 🍜
Getting to Lucky Dragon JCB near Sindang Station
Lucky Dragon JCB Sindang is a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Sindang Station (Lines 4 and 6). It's fun to walk down the alley lined with restaurants on the way there.
The exterior of Lucky Dragon JCB Sindang feels a bit Hong Kong, a bit Japanese. It has an old-house vibe that gives it a classic, elegant feel! A great atmosphere for anyone looking for a Sindang Station date-course restaurant.
'Hui Hui' (喜喜) means the joy and delight of 'heehee.' The upside-down 福 (fortune) character in the middle is a Chinese custom — sticking it upside down on a door is meant to symbolize fortune arriving. (Random fun fact, sorry!)

The interior atmosphere and seating
It was packed with customers so I couldn't take detailed photos, but there are tables for 4, group seating, and tables for 2, so both solo diners and couples on a date can enjoy the vibe. The moderately dim lighting was perfect for hiding a puffy face ^_^.
The wood-toned, cohesive interior feels classic yet cozy and comfortable. Japanese music was playing, which made it clear this is a Japanese-Chinese fusion restaurant.

There's hand cream, cotton swabs, and floss available. When you're on a date, you can't exactly grin wide at your crush with mapo tofu chili flakes stuck in your teeth — so this oral care kit has you covered.
How did the mapo tofu, char siu fried rice, and yakisoba taste?
The mapo tofu and char siu fried rice arrived quickly. The char siu was the size of my hand. The mapo tofu smelled amazing — a sharp, spicy mala aroma rising off it. It felt like there was more mala sauce than doubanjiang in the mix!
I deliberately ordered chahan (fried rice) to eat alongside the mapo tofu, but the chahan itself was already savory and well-seasoned, so I thought 'I can't resist this' and tried to order a separate bowl of steamed rice for the mapo tofu — turns out if you ask, they'll give you steamed rice with the mapo tofu for free!
Big portion, big flavor! Of mapo tofu, char siu fried rice, and yakisoba, the char siu fried rice was the one that hit closest to my taste. Loose, fluffy Chinese-style fried rice with generous chunks of char siu on top and perfect seasoning made me want to keep shoveling spoonful after spoonful. Seriously, order the char siu fried rice at Lucky Dragon JCB at least once.
Pairing with the suijin highball
The suijin highball. Refreshing and clean, it pairs beautifully with Japanese food. Surprisingly, it also goes really well with the distinctly Chinese flavor of the mapo tofu!
Then came the yakisoba, the ultimate highball pairing. Words can't do it justice... generously drizzled sauce, bonito flakes, a perfectly runny fried egg, and finely minced pickled ginger — eat it all in one bite and half a glass of highball just disappears with it.
The bonito flakes danced in my mouth as dynamically as they looked in the shot.
It was so good that I'd have kept eating even if my friend across the table collapsed from it. The plating was pretty and the atmosphere was great, making me want to come back for an actual date =>
Would I recommend it for a date course?
I cleaned my plate of tofu again today, and each piece of tableware was so classic and pretty that even though I came with a friend, it felt like a date. I confidently recommend this as a date-course restaurant near Sindang Station =>
