Mapo Korean restaurant for creamy soy milk noodles: Sangam Hoegwan

In short

Sangam Hoegwan is a Korean noodle restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, inside the Sangam IT Tower food court. On a quiet weekend evening, we shared soy milk noodles, perilla oil milmyeon, kimchi bibim noodles, and sides, with the sweetened, cream-thick soy milk noodles standing out. Verdict: go on a weekend evening for a relaxed bowl of intensely rich soy milk noodles.

This weekend evening, I went to Sangam Hoegwan (상암회관), a Sangam specialist in kongguksu (noodles in cold soy milk broth) that I’d really been wanting to try!

Visit to Sangam Hoegwan, a soy milk noodle specialist

This is a genuinely famous spot where office workers line up for a long time at weekday lunch. It’s famous enough to have been featured on TV (SBS Live Today), but we visited on a weekend evening!

Sangam Hoegwan restaurant information

Since it’s in the basement restaurant area of an office building, it was peaceful and quiet on a weekend evening. It was so nice to be able to eat comfortably, whether dining solo or out with family 🥹💕

We ordered Sangam Hoegwan’s signature dishes

This time, we put together a great order of the signature dishes!

Soy milk noodles as rich as cream

Kongguksu (₩11,000) Wow… honestly, I think these were the thickest, richest soy milk noodles I’ve ever had! 🥹 They use only contract-grown soybeans from Gangwon-do and grind them fresh every morning, and the broth was so rich and nutty that it felt like I was eating cream rather than soup. Seriously insane hahaha.

It comes naturally nutty and seasoned with just the right amount of salt, but I’m on team sugar hahaha. I sprinkled on a little more sugar, and the sweet-and-nutty flavor exploded—it was literally heavenly ❤️

Perilla oil milmyeon and kimchi bibim noodles

Perilla oil milmyeon (₩10,000) The nutty aroma of perilla oil came through beautifully, and the noodles were wonderfully springy—a real treat! It was also the perfect dish to share alongside the soy milk noodles haha.

Personally, I think I would have loved even more, more, more, more, more seaweed flakes 🤤

Mom’s kimchi bibim noodles (₩8,000) The sweet, sour, and spicy sauce was appealing, but the soy milk noodles and perilla oil milmyeon had such big personalities that this was the most familiar and ordinary-tasting of the three! Still, it was perfect for refreshing the palate in between hahaha.

Juicy large dumplings and crisp kimchi pancake

Plate of large dumplings (4 pieces) (₩4,000) & kimchi pancake (₩8,000) The big, generously filled dumplings burst with juices the moment I bit into one—so ridiculously good ㅠㅠ

Large dumplings and kimchi pancake side dishes

The kimchi pancake we ordered as a side was an absolute hit! It was cooked incredibly crisp, truly crisp outside and tender inside 🥹✨ It even had chewy squid in it, so the texture was amazing too hahaha. With all the noodles plus the sides, we felt like we might burst, but it was so delicious that we cleaned every last bit off our plates ❤️

Take it easy on a weekend evening

It’s a popular spot with lines on weekdays, but visiting on a weekend evening meant we could enjoy it so leisurely and comfortably without waiting—it was the best. I highly recommend Sangam Hoegwan to anyone wanting to discover their new favorite kongguksu, or looking for a Sangam lunch or solo-dining spot!

Even the kimchi served as a side dish was made to pair so perfectly with the soy milk noodles that I slurped it right up. Kimchi with kongguksu needs to be just a little sweet!

They say you get ube soy milk 100% of the time if you leave a meal review! Apparently, you need to send in around 200 characters.
