Indoor camping venue in Mapo, Seoul for Mario Kart: TAGE

I came here because I wanted to grill delicious pork belly with a friend in an unusual space, without worrying about the weather, while enjoying plenty of things to do haha. It was such a satisfying place to unwind, feeling as though I had arrived at a dreamy outdoor campsite right in the middle of the city!

TAGE Indoor Camping Hongdae Main Branch (티에이지실내캠핑장 홍대본점) is on B1 at 79 Wausan-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It is open daily from 11:00 to 23:00, divided into four sessions: 11:00–14:00, 14:00–17:00, 17:00–19:00, and 19:00–23:00. To prevent crowding when everyone arrives at once, entry is staggered by 30 minutes for each spot; on weekdays, when there are plenty of empty seats, you can use the space for three hours at your preferred time!

There is no dedicated parking for the venue, so if you are driving, I recommend using a nearby paid parking lot in Seogyo-dong or a public parking lot!

It is easy to find on the main Wausan-ro road, on B1 near Hongik University’s main gate and the club street. It is also conveniently accessible by subway!

Table fees and corkage rules

The basic table fee is ₩40,000 for two to four people, with ₩10,000 charged for each additional person.

Seats without a monitor (TV) are ₩30,000, a ₩10,000 discount haha. You can bring unlimited quantities of wine, whisky, spirits, makgeolli (Korean rice wine), and sake for a ₩15,000 corkage fee per table, based on four people!

However, soju, beer, and standard beverages sold at the venue cannot be brought in, so keep that in mind!

Fresh pork belly set and self-service bar

After being shown to our table, we ordered the fresh pork belly set sold at the venue! Considering the table fee, the meat prices are quite reasonable: basic fresh pork belly is ₩9,500 per serving, while the set with vegetables and kimchi is ₩14,500 per serving haha.

When you purchase meat at the venue, you can use butane gas, kimchi, ssammu (pickled radish wraps), salt, and vegetables from the self-service bar without limit! There is also a varied selection of sides, including kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), extra mushrooms, and ramen.

You may bring in takeout or delivery food, too. But if you bring your own meat, there is a separate grill-rental and butane-gas charge, and you need to sort and dispose of your own packaging waste!

The grill, burner, scissors, tongs, and other tools needed for grilling were neatly arranged right beside the table, so there was no need to keep getting up and down haha. Once the table was set, my friend grilled the meat to a lovely golden brown; perhaps because it was fresh pork belly we had brought that day, it was moist and wonderfully juicy~

Taking a bite wrapped in grilled kimchi and crisp lettuce, the distinctive savory richness of pork belly filled my mouth haha. You might worry about smoke or smells when grilling meat indoors, but the ventilation system was running well, so we could keep eating in comfort!

The self-service bar was generously stocked with basic sides such as ssammu, kimchi, and ssamjang (savory soybean dipping paste), making it easy to take as much as we wanted haha.

Thanks to my friend’s grilling skills, we were able to finish an even more delicious meal!

A dreamy atmosphere created with tents and lighting

From the stairs leading down to the entrance, lighting and green decorations combine to make it feel as though you have stepped into a completely different world. The entire basement is used, with high ceilings and an open feel, so it did not feel stuffy at all haha.

Soft, atmospheric lighting, artificial turf, cherry blossom and tree decorations placed throughout, and cute little tents create a dreamy mood. Anyone can freely enter the shared tents dotted around the space to take a break, making them perfect for getting into the camping spirit!

Food and alcohol are not allowed inside the tents, though~ With tables that feel nicely separate, this is a Hongdae-style date or party-room space where you can enjoy a cozy time with friends!

YouTube and even Mario Kart

With the smart TV at each seat, you can comfortably watch Netflix or YouTube while eating,

My friend and I have a YouTuber we both like, so we watched YouTube together while eating pork belly!! Haha.

As you would expect from a Hongdae venue equipped with Nintendo, there is a shared Nintendo Switch! My friend and I played Mario Kart~ It was so much fun to play again after a long time. They say you can even use the karaoke equipment for free if you ask the owner!

A full indoor camping session with a friend

I had such a satisfying time with my friend: we grilled delicious meat, played Nintendo and board games, and watched YouTube, all in one place haha. The indoor setting means you can fully enjoy the distinctive camping mood in comfort, without bugs or weather restrictions, so it is a wonderfully different place to visit around Hongdae and Sangsu!
