Gwangju Italian restaurant for Kung Pao chicken pilaf: Bueokgan
In short
Bueokgan Suwan Branch is an Italian restaurant in Gwangsan, Gwangju, serving pasta, pizza, and pilaf. We ordered carbonara, basil Margherita pizza, and Kung Pao chicken pilaf with my parents, and even my dad, who cannot handle spices, enjoyed the pilaf. Verdict: a great family-meal pick for its approachable Kung Pao chicken pilaf.

A Cozy Interior on a Weekend Evening

Here is the interior of Bueokgan Suwan Branch, a great pasta spot in Suwan District! We arrived just before 6 p.m. on the weekend, and it was popular enough that many tables were already full, haha.
The interior was cozy with a lovely atmosphere, so it seemed popular not only for dates but also for wedding-invitation gatherings and group get-togethers! Group reservation inquiries could be made easily through Naver Booking.
Three Dishes We Ordered with My Parents

These are the carbonara, basil Margherita pizza, and Kung Pao chicken pilaf we ordered! I went with my mom and dad, and they especially loved them.. ^.^

Basil Margherita Pizza
First up, the basil Margherita pizza my mom chose (₩19,000) had a basil pesto base topped with roasted tomatoes, with a wonderfully light appeal. Bueokgan's pizza is wood-fired-pizza style, and it was so good—light, with the natural flavors of the ingredients coming through!
The toppings were not excessive, just the right amount, so it was easy to enjoy without feeling heavy. The basil pesto went so well with the tomatoes that my mom absolutely loved it too. ^.^

The pizza was delicious even on its own without pickles or hot sauce, though it would also be tasty with either, depending on your preference! The dough itself was chewy and delicious, so even the crust was sooo good. And you know it is even more heavenly when you dip it lightly in the carbonara sauce, right? Please try it like this, haha.

Carbonara with a Poached Egg
Next was the carbonara my dad chose, with bacon and button mushrooms in a rich, creamy sauce. The poached egg made it even more moist and silky, and it was so delicious!
The portion was not small, and it was generously filled with carbonara sauce and button mushrooms, making it such a satisfying dish to enjoy.

The silky carbonara, rich and moist poached egg, salty bacon, and flavorful button mushrooms came together so harmoniously. It is traditional-carbonara style, so if you like rich, moist carbonara, I think you should definitely try it at least once~!

Kung Pao Chicken Pilaf That Is Not Overwhelmingly Spiced
The Kung Pao chicken pilaf I chose was Asian-style fried rice that paired savory, spicy Kung Pao sauce with oven-roasted chicken. It was not an unusual spice profile—just a familiar, delicious flavor?! Having actually tried it, I thought everyone would enjoy it without strong likes or dislikes! Even my dad, who cannot eat spices, was able to enjoy it, so that gets my complete approval. ^.^

It also came with a huge chicken drumstick that filled the plate. It was seriously so big, with plenty of meat, and it was tender and perfectly seasoned—so delicious! Pull off the meat and eat it with the fried rice; it is amazing, haha.
The rice was nicely stir-fried with a firm, pleasant texture, and the slightly salty, spicy seasoning had a punch of umami that was exactly to my taste! This was my best menu item, haha.

If you are looking for a great pasta restaurant in Suwan District that parents will enjoy too, I think Bueokgan Suwan Branch is well worth a visit : )
