Pohang jokbal restaurant takeaway: Hwanggeum Jokbal
In short
Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch is a jokbal restaurant in Jangseong-dong, Pohang, Gyeongbuk. I took home a large front-foot king jokbal with wraps and added ramen noodles to the complimentary pork bone soup. Even slightly cooled, it made for a very satisfying meal.

Last weekend, I went to Yeongildae in Pohang to see the sea, and on the way home I heard about this great jokbal place in Jangseong-dong, Pohang, so I picked some up to eat at home.
Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch location and takeaway
Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch is on a side street near Jangseong Doosan We've The Zenith. We went to collect a takeaway order, parked along the roadside nearby, and picked it up.

Exterior

Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch is apparently a long-running, 15-year-old spot for Ssangsa-style jokbal and bossam (boiled pork wraps).

Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch also runs a fun event. Customers get five Lucky Lotto games, and if the numbers match the actual Lotto draw, first, second, and third prizes receive one-fifth of the prize money in cash after a 20% deduction. Fourth prize gets two Lotto tickets with an order, plus two bottles of soju when dining in; fifth prize gets one Lotto ticket with an order, plus one bottle of soju when dining in. When I got my Lotto slip with the order, I thought, should I buy a real ticket with these exact numbers?! Haha.

Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch gives ₩2,000 off takeaway orders, so I noticed lots of takeaway customers too.

It also accepts both the Pohang Love Card and Goguyga Support Fund.

I took this shot because the pig character was so cute, haha.
Inside

Inside, there is coffee and a water dispenser ready for you to use after your meal.

There were diners eating in the dining room too.

The dining room is spacious, so groups can use it too. You can reserve in advance if you are coming as a group. While I waited for my jokbal takeaway, takeaway and delivery orders kept coming in. That must mean it is a great jokbal spot, right?! And the owner couple were super kind too, which I loved!!
Large front-foot king jokbal takeaway set

There are all kinds of jokbal options on the menu: king jokbal with a front foot (large) or back foot (medium), bossam, chilled jokbal, garlic-sauce jokbal, charcoal-grilled spicy jokbal, and set menus. They also sell tray noodles and pork bone soup, which you cannot leave out with jokbal. We ordered one large front-foot king jokbal to take away.

A proof-of-pickup shot with the jokbal in front of the restaurant!!

Ta-da! Holding back our hunger, we rushed home and sat down at the table. The jokbal smell during the trip home made me soooo hungry, lol.

From the gorgeous jokbal to pickled onions, dried radish kimchi, peppers and garlic, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and salted shrimp sauce. They also gave us a huge amount of leafy greens for making wraps.

The meat looked absolutely glorious, right? It was so springy that you could practically feel the bounce even in the photos.

Jokbal and pork bone soup that were delicious even after cooling
Time to eat!!! The jokbal was so good that I did not manage to take many eating photos, but I dipped it in ssamjang, made wraps with it, and ate it simply with onions. Before I knew it, only the bones were left, hahaha. The jokbal had cooled slightly on the way home after takeaway, but it was still completely delicious. How much better would it have been while hot?

Oh, and Hwanggeum Jokbal Jangseong Branch gave us pork bone soup as a complimentary extra with the jokbal. After finishing the jokbal, we tossed in ramen noodles and cooked the soup—it was perfect as dessert?! Or another meal?! The meat clinging to the bones was tender, and I especially liked that there was plenty of it, haha. Everything from the jokbal and side dishes to the pork bone soup was delicious, making this a satisfying meal in no time.
