Suseong Daegu Korean restaurant with creamy spicy pork, Banwoldang

In short

Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch is a Korean restaurant in Suseong, Daegu. My sister and I tried the branch-only fire-grilled spicy creamy pork, served on a hot stone plate with melting cheese and cheongguk doenjang-jjigae. A great comforting meal for cream and cheese lovers.

Visitor information for Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch

My first visit to Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch

I had been to the original Buja Sikdang location in Banwoldang before, but I heard a new Suseong Branch, known for Korean food, had opened, so this was my first visit 🙌

Maybe because it is newly opened, it felt much cleaner and more comfortable overall than the original location. Even on a weekday at lunchtime, there were quite a lot of people!

The black rice is ordered separately, while the countryside cheongguk doenjang-jjigae comes as part of the meal.

This doenjang-jjigae was seriously so good.. 🤍

The basic side dishes were fried burdock, radish, seasoned seaweed stems, and seasoned bean sprouts. It was a neat selection, and they even gave us refills once we finished them.

How does the self-serve ssam vegetable bar work?

There is a separate self-serve bar on one side with ssam vegetables (greens for wrapping food).

They normally keep it covered and only open it when needed, so I liked that they seemed to pay close attention to hygiene!

Fire-grilled spicy creamy pork with melting cheese

The spicy marinated pork was sizzling away on a stone plate, topped generously with cheese—such an amazing look..

It was fun to watch the cheese slowly melt over the flame and mix with the sauce. I also loved that it was served in a brazier, so it stayed warm right through to the last bite 🖤

Despite how bold it looked, it was not overly intense or spicy, and the cream flavor was just right. It paired beautifully with the doenjang-jjigae too!

Spicy pork combined with cream

The pork was cut thickly along the grain, so it had a satisfying chew!

The seasoning was not just on the surface—it had soaked all the way in, so it did not lose much of its flavor even as it cooled! It was exactly my kind of dish as someone who loves cheese and cream 😋

The cheese was mild and gently nutty, softening the heat, while the countryside cheongguk doenjang-jjigae that came with it was not salty.

How to finish the leftover cream sauce

It was great to mix the remaining sauce into rice, and I also recommend adding a spoonful of rice to the leftover cream sauce at the end and stir-frying it all up 😖😖🤍

I highly recommend this place to anyone craving Korean food! The restaurant was clean, and I could feel the care they put into hygiene, so I was very happy with Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch.
