Today I'm writing up a lunch I had with my kid — just the two of us — while out in Hyehwa Daehangno.
Whenever we head to Hyehwa I want to eat something good and also wander around Daehangno, so picking where to eat is always a bit of a puzzle. This time I tried Omil Hyehwa Daehangno, known for its adorable rubber-duck omurice.

I'd always thought Omil's rubber-duck omurice looked cute, and sure enough, visiting with my kid, the reaction was great. 💛 The food was tasty and the space was clean and pleasant, so it worked well for a meal with a child, and it would also suit a Hyehwa or Daehangno date.

This time, just the two of us, we ordered 🐤 the Chong-Chong-Chong! Rubber Duck Omurice, the sizzling cheese cutlet on a hot plate, an Oh! Cherry Ade, and an Oh! Pineapple Ade.

Most of all, having a kids' chair on hand was a relief for someone visiting with a child.

When you eat out with a kid, taste matters, but whether the seats and space are comfortable quietly matters too. So this felt like a solid option for anyone looking for a Hyehwa spot to eat at with a child.
🐤 So cute the kid fell for it first: rubber-duck omurice
The menu I was most looking forward to at Omil was, of course, the Chong-Chong-Chong! Rubber Duck Omurice.
It's ₩16,900. The name alone is cute, and when the dish actually arrived, my kid's eyes went round. Haha. A fluffy swirl omurice with an adorable rubber duck perched on top — the kind of look that has you reaching for your phone the moment it lands on the table.

When you go to a restaurant with a kid, it really helps the whole meal go more smoothly if there's at least one dish that catches their interest. The rubber-duck omurice was great for exactly that.
"Mom, this is a duck!" — my kid kept staring at it for ages. 😆
On top of that, there was a free rubber-duck giveaway, so my kid got to keep playing with the duck even after the meal, which made it even better.

It felt like ordering one dish and getting a cute toy thrown in, which made the two of us very happy with the visit.

The omurice itself was soft and fluffy, easy to share with a kid. If you're looking for somewhere to eat with your child in Hyehwa, this is a dish worth ordering just for the visual appeal alone.
🧀 Sizzling cheese cutlet on a hot plate
The second dish was the sizzling cheese cutlet on a hot plate! It's ₩19,900. True to its name, it arrives sizzling on a piping-hot plate, and the sound alone was enough to get me hungry.
A thick cheese cutlet topped with more cheese sits on the hot plate, and as the cheese melted, a savory aroma drifted up.

With just the two of us, I briefly considered ordering only the omurice, but I was glad we added the cheese cutlet too.
I fed my kid the omurice while I ate the cheese cutlet, and we shared bites of each. If your kid loves cheese, this dish would probably be a hit too. 😍

The crispy fried cutlet with savory, gooey cheese caught my kid's attention too. The sizzling on the hot plate also made the moment the food arrived part of the fun.
🍒 Oh! Cherry Ade
For drinks, we each picked one. First, the Oh! Cherry Ade for ₩6,900.
A sweet-tart cherry ade with a splash of fresh lemon juice — sweet yet bright, and a good match for greasy food. Taking a sip between bites of cheese cutlet or omurice cleared the palate nicely!

The color was pretty too, and it looked great sitting alongside the food for photos. 📸 We usually just share one drink when eating out with a kid, but this time we ordered two different flavors and drank to our own taste.
🍍 Oh! Pineapple Ade
The second drink was the Oh! Pineapple Ade, ₩6,900.

It's said to be Omil's signature pineapple ade, made with sweet pineapple syrup. The distinct sweet-tart pineapple flavor made it easy to drink without feeling too heavy.

Ordering the cherry ade and pineapple ade together, with their contrasting colors, made the table look even brighter. Even with just the two of us, ordering a variety of dishes made it feel like a small brunch spread. 😊
🍽️ How it felt eating with just my kid
Visiting with just my kid this time, the menu lineup turned out to be better than expected. The rubber-duck omurice was great to eat with a child, and the cheese cutlet worked well for an adult and kid to share.
Adding an ade each made for a nice, unhurried meal for the two of us. What matters most when picking a restaurant with a kid is avoiding a menu that's all spicy or overly strong flavors — and Omil had kid-friendly options like the omurice and cutlet, which I appreciated. Plus, since the food looks so cute, my kid was interested the moment it hit the table.
"What should we eat?" is always the biggest question when dining out with a kid, and it was good to know there's a place like this to remember in Hyehwa.
💛 An atmosphere that also suits a Hyehwa date
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno was great to visit with my kid, but the atmosphere itself would also suit a date.

The whole space is bright and clean, with tables arranged in a cozy way, so it would work well for a meal with friends or a couple's date around Daehangno. Since a lot of people come to Daehangno for plays or performances, it's a good spot to eat before or after a show. If you're planning a Hyehwa date, a course of good pasta or omurice followed by a slow wander through the Daehangno alleys sounds great too.
🥰 Overall thoughts
This time visiting Omil Hyehwa Daehangno with just my kid, we had a satisfying meal — from the adorable rubber-duck omurice to the sizzling cheese cutlet and the sweet-tart cherry and pineapple ades. Most of all, seeing my kid so happy over the rubber-duck omurice put me in a good mood too.
When eating out with a kid, you look for a place your child will enjoy and you'll enjoy eating too — and on that front, Omil Hyehwa was quite satisfying. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Hyehwa pasta spot, anyone who likes omurice or cheese cutlet, anyone looking for a Daehangno date restaurant, and anyone like me looking for somewhere to eat with a kid in Hyehwa. Especially if your kid loves rubber ducks, they'll get a fun meal plus a cute duck to take home. 🐤💛
If you're planning an outing to Hyehwa with your kid, give Omil Hyehwa Daehangno a try — you can explore Daehangno and get a good meal in one trip. Next time we're back in Hyehwa, I'd like to try other dishes too. 😊
