Jongno's Seosullo-gil bakery after an autumn walk: rice cheese loaf
In short
Munhwa Bakery is a takeout-only bakery on Donhwamun-ro in Jongno, Seoul, an easy stop on a walk through Jongno 3-ga, Jongmyo Shrine and Seosullo-gil. Arriving around noon on a weekend meant waiting in line, since only two groups are let inside at a time, and the order was plain, lightly sweet breads to share with parents: rice cheese loaf 5,900 won, cheese bread 5,400 won and walnut bread 3,500 won. Munhwa Bakery keeps prices low and loaves large, making it a good gift stop after a look around Ikseon-dong.

Where is Munhwa Bakery and how does ordering work?
Munhwa Bakery is a takeout-only bakery on the first floor of 65 Donhwamun-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It's a perfect stop for a walk through Jongno 3-ga, Jongmyo Shrine, and Seosullo-gil (서순라길). Seosullo-gil in Jongno, a must-visit in this weather ❣️ The breeze is blowing and it's such a great autumn for a walk.

I visited around noon on a weekend, and only two groups can enter the inside at once — a bakery so good it forms a line ✌️ (Note: eating inside isn't really an option here, it's a takeout-only bakery!)

The three signatures: coffee bread, garlic bread, onion bagel
Coffee bread 5,800, garlic bread 6,800, onion bagel 6,000 🥖✌️ These three are Munhwa Bakery's signatures! I've tried all three and all three are delicious!! The onion bagel in particular is packed with cream and crisp outside, soft inside 🩵🩵 Coffee bread and onion bagel are my favorites!! The garlic baguette has so much garlic cream it practically overflows, no joke.

Packed up the delicious breads and headed home. The staff are always kind whenever I go, which makes it an even nicer place 😊

Stopping by on a Seosullo-gil walk
The weather was nice, so I took a walk around Seosullo-gil before heading here. Bread and stone walls 💙💙✌️✌️ It's a great spot to grab bread to carry along after checking out Ikseon-dong.

Rice-cheese loaf ₩5,900 Walnut bread ₩3,500 Cheese bread ₩5,400
In this era of high prices, Munhwa Bakery is affordable and the breads are large. And of course, the ingredients are generous too!!

Three plain breads picked to share with parents
This time I picked some slightly unusual breads. Since I'd be eating them with my parents, I chose ones that were plain and not too creamy.

Rice cheese loaf, 5,900 won
A big, generous loaf studded with cheese as the main event!! The rice-chestnut loaf is delicious too, by the way — both the cheese and chestnut versions are good!!!! This time I went with cheese~ It's great that there isn't just one type of cheese but several 🥰🥰 I visited a bit early this time, so luckily the breads weren't sold out — these loaves are often gone by the time I usually get there~

Cheese bread, 5,400 won
My nieces and nephews eat this cheese bread up too. It's packed with cheese inside, so it's even better with a quick zap in the air fryer or microwave!!! Salty but not greasy — highly recommend it to anyone who loves cheese 🐤

Walnut bread, 3,500 won
And then the walnut bread!! The crunch of the nuts on top makes it even more delicious. Walnut bread is hard to find at other chains too haha. It's really tasty and works perfectly as a light meal.

There are nuts studded inside too. Plain but sweet, which is exactly what my parents like. And it's cheap too, only around ₩3,000 haha.

Looking at the photos makes me want to eat it again ㅠㅠ It goes perfectly with a latte!!
Who should visit Munhwa Bakery?
Ate well and finished off the day with a walk around Seosullo-gil!!

Highly recommend it as a gift stop when visiting Ikseon-dong haha. Also a strong recommendation for any bread lover — a great destination for a Seoul bakery pilgrimage 💙💙🥖🥖🥖
