Today I visited Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon, a Chinese restaurant already famous among Gwanghwamun office workers. It's located inside the Lemeilleur Building, so it's easy to get to, and since it's well known for dosakmyeon (knife-cut noodles) I'd been curious about it for a while. This time I ordered the signature dosakmyeon and kkanpunggi (crispy sweet-spicy chicken) for dinner haha 😆

Cheonghwa is on the 1st floor of the Lemeilleur Building in Gwanghwamun, so it wasn't hard to find. Since so many office workers from Gwanghwamun and Jongak visit this building, the whole place gets lively around mealtimes. It was a great spot to drop by without much fuss whenever I'm craving Chinese food~
The 2nd floor on a weekday evening: solo diners to family dinners
Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon operates across the 1st and 2nd floors, and we were seated on the 2nd floor that day. Even though it was a weekday evening, the crowd was really varied — office workers eating alone, groups of friends, families, and coworkers all sharing tables. It's easy to see why they call it a Gwanghwamun office workers' favorite.
Jjachai side dish good enough to refill
The basic side dishes were jjachai (pickled radish) and peanuts, served first. I'm not usually a huge fan of jjachai, but this one was genuinely delicious!! The crunchy texture was great and the seasoning was just right, so I kept reaching for more. I actually ended up asking for a refill. Paired with the savory peanuts, it was perfect for whetting the appetite before the main dishes arrived.
Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon menu and what we ordered
Cheonghwa has a wide menu ranging from dosakmyeon to stir-fried dishes, rice dishes, and dim sum, so it's easy for a group with different tastes to find something. If it's your first visit, I'd definitely recommend trying the signature dosakmyeon. We ordered the signature dosakmyeon and kkanpunggi, and in the end it turned out to be a really satisfying combination. Next time I want to try the dim sum too.
Our order came out all at once shortly after. The table with the signature dosakmyeon and kkanpunggi together was much more generous than I expected. A hot bowl of dosakmyeon paired with crispy kkanpunggi just looked like a winning combination. I wanted to snap a photo and dig in right away.
Signature dosakmyeon: noodle texture and how mild the spices are
If you're at Cheonghwa, you have to try the dosakmyeon. Unlike regular noodles, dosakmyeon has an uneven thickness that gives it a distinctive chewy bite, and the chewy, springy noodles went really well with the broth — genuinely fun to eat.
Chinese-style noodle dishes can be hit or miss because of the spices, but Cheonghwa's dosakmyeon felt more suited to Korean tastes than I expected. My parents, who usually can't handle strongly spiced food, genuinely enjoyed it and were able to eat it without any discomfort. I'd recommend it as a great entry point into dosakmyeon.
How was the kkanpunggi?
Honestly, the dish I was most looking forward to that day was the kkanpunggi. My mom had been saying for days that she wanted something crispy and Chinese, but since we've had tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and kkwabaegi rou so many times, we decided to try kkanpunggi instead. Bottom line: it was a great choice. Crispy outside, moist inside — the texture was excellent, and it wasn't overly sweet or heavy, so I kept going back for more.
The chili peppers on top were especially impressive. I expected them to be spicy since they were finely chopped, but they weren't overwhelming at all — if anything, they brought out the flavor of the kkanpunggi even more. I ate the peppers along with the chicken and they were really good. If you visit Cheonghwa, definitely order the kkanpunggi.
Is Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon worth it for dinner with parents?
If you're looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Gwanghwamun, Cheonghwa is a solid choice. The dosakmyeon had a mild spice level that even first-timers could enjoy, and the kkanpunggi exceeded expectations too. I could see why so many different people — office workers, friends, and families — come here even on a weekday evening. This is a Gwanghwamun favorite I'd like to revisit to try the dim sum and more of the menu.
