Gangnam Chinese restaurant for dongpo pork buns: Bobo Sikdang

In short

Bobo Sikdang (보보식당) Apgujeong is a Chinese restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul. On a date with my husband, we ordered dongpo pork, abalone seafood jajangmyeon, and cucumber salad; the pork tucked into steamed buns and the clean-tasting noodles stood out. Verdict: A wonderful pick when you want both atmosphere and great food.

Visiting a Chinese restaurant on an Apgujeong date

My husband and I went on a date to Apgujeong for a change of pace for the first time in a while! ❤️ I searched hard for somewhere delicious to eat, and Bobo Sikdang, a restaurant by Chef Jang Bo-won from Culinary Class Wars 2, immediately caught my eye! Just as the word of mouth promised, it had an upscale atmosphere—and I came away having met my new all-time favorite dongpo pork and jajangmyeon. Let me share my honest visit to Bobo Sikdang, a Chinese restaurant gem in Apgujeong Rodeo!

Valet Parking and an Upscale Atmosphere

Parking is always a concern around Apgujeong, but Bobo Sikdang offers valet parking, which was so convenient! 🚗 We left the car with the valet for ₩5,000 and headed into the restaurant, covered in Blue Ribbon stickers!

Once inside, I was welcomed by an elegant, spotless interior on a totally different level from an ordinary Chinese restaurant. The lighting was atmospheric too, and the mood was so lovely—perfect for a couples' date!

Private dining room

There are also well-appointed private rooms where you can dine discreetly, so I thought it would be ideal for a family gathering or a special-occasion get-together too. 👍

Ordering Dongpo Pork and Abalone Seafood Jajangmyeon

After settling in and looking over the menu, we found it full of refined Chinese dishes, leaving us with the happiest dilemma of what to choose! In the end, my husband and I ordered the signature dishes we had been most excited for: dongpo pork, abalone seafood jajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce), and cucumber salad, perfect for refreshing the palate. 😋

As our dishes arrived one by one, their neat presentation and delicious aromas made my mouth water the moment they hit the table! 💕

Tender Dongpo Pork Wrapped in Steamed Buns

First up was Bobo Sikdang's dongpo pork, the dish I had been bursting with anticipation for! 👏

The dongpo pork came with warm, fluffy steamed buns—a thoughtful touch. You stuff the buns generously with the long-braised, tender meat, fresh cucumber, crisp shredded scallion, and bok choy, then wrap it all up and eat!

When I took a big bite, the sauce was not overly salty, just pleasantly savory, while the meat melted away so unbelievably tenderly that it barely seemed to need teeth. 🥹

The rich meat, crisp vegetables, and fluffy steamed bun were an absolutely fantastic combination. I instantly understood why this place is known for its dongpo pork!

Abalone Seafood Jajangmyeon and Cucumber Salad

Next came the abalone seafood jajangmyeon, and it felt like a real composed dish on a completely different level from ordinary jajangmyeon! 👀

The noodles were slightly thin, and the clean, non-greasy house sauce soaked right in instead of sitting separately on top.

The abalone, assorted seafood, and vegetables were all generously sized and incredibly fresh, with the best texture! The second I tasted it, I blurted out in amazement to my husband, “This is my all-time favorite jajangmyeon!” 😋

Spicy cucumber salad accompaniment

Adding the cucumber salad here and there, coated in a spicy house sauce, cut right through the richness typical of Chinese food. It was truly the perfect pairing in place of danmuji (pickled yellow radish) or kimchi!

A Meal That Made Me Curious About the Other Dishes
