Bucheon spicy webfoot octopus takeout: Yajju Yajju

Spicy webfoot octopus picked up near Chunui Station

I was craving something spicy, so I visited Yajju Yajju Maekom Jjukkumi Main Branch (야쭈야쭈매콤쭈꾸미본점), known for its webfoot octopus near Chunui Station. This time, I stopped by the restaurant and picked up a takeout order, and it turns out this is a place that first became famous in Bucheon for delivery before opening a dining room. I imagine plenty of people have only tried it by delivery, but once you taste it, you will probably go, “Ah, this is that place!” It is the very restaurant that ranked No. 1 for delivery webfoot octopus in Bucheon.

I suppose a delivery restaurant that had already proven itself must have done well enough to open a dining room, right? It was already so well known that I felt I could trust it, and it is still listed on the Baemin app. When I visited, there were quite a few takeout customers too, so I could really feel its popularity. The dining room is fairly spacious, and high chairs were available as well.

Around the restaurant, I noticed phrases that conveyed the owner’s mindset, like promises not to lose their original intention and to serve customers kindly with trust. I sincerely hope a good restaurant like this keeps doing well for a long, long time, haha. So I am writing this review sincerely too.

Spice levels and the Jjubossam combination

You can choose your spice level, which was great because people who do not handle spicy food well and people who want it seriously hot can both adjust it to their taste. I ordered mild, and it was not overly intense, yet it had a tingly heat that kept me reaching for more.

Let me show you the Yajju Yajju menu. The things that caught my eye most were the unusual combinations pairing webfoot octopus with other ingredients.

• Jjusam: webfoot octopus + pork belly
• Jjudak: webfoot octopus + chicken
• Jjuwoo: webfoot octopus + thin-sliced beef brisket
• Jjubossam: webfoot octopus + bossam (boiled pork)

These were combinations I had not often seen at other webfoot octopus restaurants, so choosing was fun. I am more of a seafood person while my partner prefers meat, but Jjubossam was perfect because it satisfied both of us despite our different tastes.

So I ordered two servings of Jjubossam for takeout, plus one extra serving of webfoot octopus. The spicy, savory flavor of the webfoot octopus went so well with the tender, mild bossam that I would really recommend this combination to anyone wanting seafood and meat at the same time.

A generous takeout set and bossam

When I ordered, I was told they fill up the webfoot octopus portion without adding vegetables, so I was already looking forward to it. Once I opened the takeout order, there really was an incredible amount of food. Even though I ordered two servings for two people, we ate until full and still had some left. The perilla leaves that came with it were fresh and high quality too, so I was very satisfied~

I do not think the quality could have been any better. The bossam had such a savory flavor, and it was clean with none of that unpleasant meat smell.

Flying-fish-roe rice balls and perilla-leaf wraps

It had been a long time since I had flying-fish-roe rice balls. When you are raising a baby, it is really difficult to go out and eat spicy food with your little one, so this was my first webfoot octopus since giving birth. I was so happy that I could enjoy it just as if I were eating at the restaurant.

I made the rice balls by hand like this. They are easy to roll into little rounds, but since it had been a while, it was fun to do too.

It is really delicious when you wrap the rice ball and webfoot octopus together in a perilla leaf like this. Adding ssammu (pickled radish wrap) makes it fresher and crunchier.

Jjubossam for diners with different tastes

This visit showed me firsthand why it became famous for delivery. I thought the combinations that are hard to find elsewhere, such as Jjusam, Jjudak, Jjuwoo, and Jjubossam, were a real highlight, and the generous amount of webfoot octopus was impressive too. Needless to say, the webfoot octopus itself was tender and delicious. It also seemed like they selected fresh ingredients. I especially strongly recommend Jjubossam for couples who want seafood and meat together, or for groups with different preferences.
