Munjeong pot rice late lunch: eel ochazuke and nurungji at Gome Mui
In short
Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a Japanese pot rice (sotbap) restaurant on the B1 floor of Terra Tower near Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. Near the end of lunch hours, the eel pot rice was eaten on top of the rice as the instruction card suggests and then turned into ochazuke (rice in tea broth). The steak pot rice was mixed with egg yolk and finished as nurungji (scorched rice soup) by pouring in hot water. Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a Munjeong Station spot where a single pot of rice makes a full, satisfying meal right down to the nurungji.

Today's story is about Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong (고메무이 송파문정점), a Munjeong Station favorite. I heard that if you order pot rice (솥밥, sotbap) you get to enjoy nurungji (scorched rice) at the end, so I had high hopes, and the meal really did wrap up in a satisfying way. I hope this helps anyone looking for a dinner spot near Munjeong Station, so let me record it step by step 😊

What the name Gome Mui means
I was curious about the name, so I read the info tab. Gome Mui combines the Japanese 'gome' (米, rice) with 'mui' (無二, one and only). They add the sense of French gourmet (a lover of fine food), and the idea is to offer a flavor that's the only one of its kind in the world.

What side dishes come with Gome Mui pot rice?
The side dishes at Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong are wasabi served with pickled chili peppers, pollock roe (myeongran), and mustard leaf kimchi. They're neatly set out in small bowls.
- Wasabi served with pickled chili peppers
- Salty, savory pollock roe
- Spicy mustard leaf kimchi

They come in small portions, which was just right to go with the pot rice. The eel pot rice especially needs the wasabi, so don't leave it behind, eat it up 👍
The how-to-eat instructions are explained in detail, which made it easy to follow~^^
How do you eat the Gome Mui eel pot rice?
For the eel pot rice at Gome Mui, you don't mix the eel into the rice. You eat it on top of the rice, and when about a third is left, you turn it into ochazuke (rice with hot tea or broth). The moment I opened the lid, a generous layer of glossy eel was sitting on top and my eyes lit up 👀
The eel had light char marks on the surface and was coated in a sweet-salty sauce, with chopped green onions scattered between the rice.

Gome Mui gives you a card showing how to eat the eel pot rice like this.😁👍
- Don't mix the rice and eel; eat them together with the eel on top of the rice
- When about a third of the rice and eel is left, move it to a bowl
- Add wasabi and seaweed flakes and enjoy it as warm ochazuke

How do you mix the Gome Mui steak pot rice?
For the steak pot rice at Gome Mui, you mix the rice and egg yolk in the pot evenly with the steak, then scoop it into a bowl to eat. The key is not to add the sauce all at once, but a little at a time as you mix.

The card also had a tip: adding the sauce all at once can make it too salty, so add it bit by bit. I added it little by little to suit my taste and it came out just right 😋

I tried it with different salted seafood (jeotgal) on top, and with wasabi too. It really melts in your mouth!😁😁

How do you make nurungji with Gome Mui pot rice?
After finishing the steak pot rice at Gome Mui, pour hot water into the pot and close the lid, and it becomes nurungji. The highlight of a pot rice restaurant is the nurungji, after all!😎
After a little while, open the lid and keep eating with the nurungji, and it warms you right up inside.
