While looking for a good sashimi place in Busan, I visited Ppong Sashimi. I thought it was over near Gwangalli, but it's actually near Busan Station, on the Nampo-dong side by Jungang-dong Station. No ocean view, but I could totally see why it's known for the quality of its fish.
Finding Ppong Sashimi and parking — is it easy?
Ppong Sashimi is in Jungang-dong, not far from Busan Station, and parking right in front of the restaurant made things easy. I was traveling in Busan so I don't know the exact geography, but the person driving said so, haha.
And luckily there was a spot open just then! If you're driving, you probably don't need to worry about parking. When we arrived there were already quite a few customers, and the walls were covered in celebrity autographs, so it seems to be a pretty famous place. I heard it's word-of-mouth famous as a sashimi restaurant near Nampo-dong and Jungang-dong Station.
We booked a family room and ate comfortably
I booked a room at Ppong Sashimi ahead of time. I figured it'd be crowded on weekends or in the evening, so booking in advance turned out to be the right call.

Besides the room, the general seating is also divided into sections and lightly screened with curtains, which looked good for family visits or company dinners too. The space was plenty big for a family of four, and if the middle door is opened, it could handle a larger group dinner as well. The tables were roomy, and it was comfortable to sit and eat. Good for anyone who wants a bit of privacy while eating.
Tuna sashimi and mixed sashimi, 45,000 won each
Looking over the menu, I ordered the tuna sashimi and the mixed sashimi. Each was 45,000 won — great value!

It had been a while since I'd had tuna sashimi, and it was delicious — it almost looked like beef. This place is known as a great spot for tuna in Busan, so I had high expectations when I ordered.
The tuna sashimi came sliced nice and thick
Ppong Sashimi's tuna sashimi came sliced thicker than I expected, which I loved. So many places slice their sashimi thin these days, right? Here they really cut it thick.

It just melted in my mouth — that distinctive nutty tuna flavor really came through. It felt so fresh, and I understood why it's known as a top tuna spot near Nampo-dong and Jungang-dong Station. Dipped in wasabi and soy sauce, it was really delicious.
The mixed sashimi was fresh too
Ppong Sashimi's mixed sashimi (모둠회) platter came with several varieties, each one fresh. The menu listed it as modeumhoe (모둠회, mixed sashimi platter), and it included the standards — flounder, salmon, rockfish — along with some seasonal fish.

The fish was cut thick, so the texture was great and there was something to chew on. Each type tasted different, which made it fun to eat through. Among sashimi restaurants near Busan Station, the fish quality here really stands out.
What comes with the basic side dishes?
Ppong Sashimi's basic side dishes were varied too. Steamed abalone, fried shrimp, salad, scallops, sea squirt, octopus, sushi and more all came out neatly arranged.
Eating the sashimi together with the side dishes rather than on its own made the meal feel that much more generous. As you'd expect from a well-known spot in Jungang-dong, Busan, you could tell care went into every single side dish.
Finishing with beef hot pot and egg roe rice
After finishing the sashimi, the beef hot pot came out, and with ginkgo nuts in it, the broth had a healthy flavor I liked.

It was just right for settling the stomach after all that sashimi. The broth was rich but not greasy, so it stayed satisfying to the very end. Finishing off sashimi with a hot pot is really the way to go.
If the taste of the fish matters more than the view
Ppong Sashimi doesn't have any ocean view. It's just a Japanese-style restaurant in the middle of the city, near Nampo-dong and Jungang-dong Station in Busan.

If the taste of the fish matters more to you than the view, or if you need a place for a gathering, I'd recommend it. It's a really good spot to eat fresh sashimi at a good price.
