Daegu café with Geumho River views and floor seating: Hands Coffee

In short

Hands Coffee Dongchon Yuwonji Branch is a café in Dong-gu, Daegu, with Geumho River views, parking, floor seating, and a rooftop. I visited with my child and enjoyed the chewy blueberry cream cheese waffle, but found the old-fashioned shaved ice disappointing because the ice was coarse and melted quickly.

Is it easy to relax by the Geumho River, with convenient parking?

This was my second visit to Hands Coffee Dongchon Yuwonji Branch (핸즈커피 동촌유원지점). I came before to see the night view, but this time I stopped by with my child around sunset. It is on a hill at Dongchon Yuwonji, near Haemaji Bridge, making it a pleasant place to relax while looking out over the Geumho River.

Parking can be difficult around Dongchon Yuwonji, but this café has a large private lot, so I parked without having to hurry. The café extends from the second through fourth floors, with plenty of seating. It was also a convenient place to take a short break while exploring Dongchon Yuwonji.

The building looked striking at sunset, too. A structure connected to the building looked like a spider bridge. I did not know what it was for, but it caught my eye.

What seating and sights are there on each floor?

I rode the elevator up to look around each floor, chose a seat, then went down to the second floor to order. A natural air freshener in the elevator gave off a fresh scent.

On the second floor, I could smell coffee and watch the drinks being made. There were spacious sofas and deer decorations, too.

Animal statues, including deer and rabbits, were placed throughout the café, giving it the feel of a small zoo. My child played at pretending to feed the animal statues. I also noticed paintings and objects reminiscent of classical European artwork.

There was an astronaut object on the third floor. While looking at it, I also noticed that the ceiling was open above the area behind the bar table.

How is it for relaxing with a child or sitting with a group?

The fourth floor has a rooftop and floor tables. The floor seating was spacious, so it was comfortable to sit and relax there with my child. However, there were no baby chairs.

You can look out over the Geumho River from the rooftop. I felt it would also be a nice place to bring older adults for a break. There was group seating, so it could work for several people stopping by after a wedding at one of the nearby wedding venues.

Where do you order, and when is brunch available?

Orders could be placed either at the kiosk or the counter on the second floor.

Desserts were attractively displayed at the counter.

A sign said brunch was available daily from 10:00 to 15:00. There were also Dongchon Yuwonji Branch special menu items and brunch sets, but I visited after the service hours and could not order them.

There was a wide variety of hand-drip coffee, as well as many drinks without coffee.

How were the blueberry cream cheese waffle and old-fashioned shaved ice?

This time, I chose the blueberry cream cheese waffle and old-fashioned shaved ice. Since I was sharing the shaved ice with my child, I asked for the red bean topping separately.

The waffle was made with glutinous rice, giving it a pleasantly chewy texture. It came with Häagen-Dazs ice cream and homemade whipped cream. To my taste, the whipped cream had a fluffy texture and milky flavor rather than feeling greasy.

The old-fashioned shaved ice had plenty of nuts. However, the ice particles were fairly large, so it tasted more watery than milky. It also melted quickly, which was disappointing, so it is best to eat it as soon as it arrives.
