HYROX shoes for long walks, fitted with my mom: DARIMATI BR-001

I went to Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch with my mom over the weekend and stumbled on a pop-up that was hard to just walk past. It was the DARIMATI pop-up, a brand that's been getting attention lately among people working out in HYROX shoes and CrossFit shoes.

My mom happened to be looking for a comfortable pair of sneakers since she walks Tancheon stream a lot. I wondered whether a shoe known for serious workouts would also work for walking, so we tried it on together — and the short version is, she liked it enough to buy it on the spot.

The DARIMATI pop-up runs on the 4th floor of U-PLEX at Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch from September 7 to September 20, 2026. Shoes are the main focus, but you can also browse running wear, hats and accessories, and a rowing machine set up right in the middle of the space gave the whole area a pretty dynamic vibe.

There's also a 30-second rowing machine challenge going on, so it's more than just a shoe-browsing pop-up — there's something to actually try. Hit 150m for men or 100m for women and you get entered into a lucky draw, so anyone who likes to work out might want to give it a shot.

Why the DARIMATI BR-001 gets attention in HYROX and CrossFit

DARIMATI is a Korean hybrid city running shoe brand whose name combines "dari" (bridge, as in the bridges over the Han River) and "mati," meaning horseshoe. It first drew attention by launching in the US market, and at this Pangyo pop-up you could see its flagship BR-001 along with new colorways and a follow-up model.

The BR-001 isn't just a running shoe — it's designed with running, pushing, and pulling movements in mind, which makes it worth a look for anyone shopping for HYROX shoes or CrossFit shoes. The on-site price tag for the BR-001 was ₩139,000.

At this DARIMATI pop-up you could also see the BR-001 in Core Black and the follow-up model, VT-001. Sizes started at 230, and Core Black had an even wider range, up to size 300. It has the functionality you'd want for working out but doesn't stand out too much with everyday clothes either, so it wasn't a hard sell when picking a shoe for my mom.

This was actually the part I was most curious about. My mom isn't someone who runs for a time — she walks long distances along Tancheon stream — so comfort and stability mattered more to her than traction.

Trying it on, our first impression was that it was lighter than expected. The sole didn't feel overly stiff — it had a sense of supporting the foot broadly — and while walking, her foot felt securely held rather than floaty.

My mom walked around the store herself and was satisfied with the fit, and it ended in a purchase. I also liked that the design didn't look overly technical — it was clean. Even if you're not doing HYROX or CrossFit, it's a style you could wear for everyday walking or light exercise without feeling out of place.

Are the DARIMATI BR-001 good for long Tancheon walks?

At first, because it's known as a HYROX shoe, I thought it might only suit people training at a high intensity. But trying it on with my mom shifted my impression a bit.

It felt light and gave stable support to the foot, which made it a good fit for my mom, who was looking for a shoe for long walking routes like Tancheon. And the biggest advantage of the DARIMATI pop-up was being able to check the size and fit in person before buying.

Whether you're after CrossFit shoes or HYROX shoes, or just a comfortable shoe for long walks, it's worth trying on in person while the pop-up is running. We dropped by with no plan at all and ended up picking out a proper shoe for my mom — a pretty satisfying visit.
