DARIMATI BR-001 is a HYROX running shoe that handles HYROX, CrossFit and running all in one pair, and I got to try it on in person at the pop-up store on the 4th floor U-PLEX of Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch. Now that cool autumn is arriving and I'm going out for walks a lot more, I was looking for a running shoe with excellent fit — something other than the sandals or Crocs I lived in all summer.

My feet are narrow and my ankles bend easily, so fit and cushioning matter a lot to me. Just then I heard that a DARIMATI pop-up had opened at Hyundai Department Store Pangyo, so off I went!

DARIMATI, which started in the US and has been selling out repeatedly, and is worn by CrossFit champion Ha Su-hyeon, is being introduced in Korea for the first time through this pop-up store at Hyundai Department Store Pangyo 👍🏻 With interest in HYROX, hybrid training and CrossFit rising, this is such welcome news for anyone looking for shoes suited to these foot-intensive workouts 👀✨

What kind of shoe is the DARIMATI BR-001?

The BR-001, DARIMATI's flagship product !!! It's said to be a HYROX shoe that goes beyond a simple sneaker, made to fully account for the range of hybrid movements — running, pushing, pulling — that can honestly feel pretty brutal 😍

The store had not just the BR-001, the star of this pop-up, but also a follow-up model and new colors being shown for the first time at this pop-up, all available to try. Still, since this was my first time trying DARIMATI shoes, I went with the flagship BR-001!! The already-popular BR-001 had sold out in sizes 270 and 280 in store. Good thing my feet are smaller than that…🫠

A gorgeous model shot of the BR-001!!✨✨ My first impression was that, unlike a regular sneaker, it doesn't use standard laces but an Easy Lace Lock system!! No worrying about laces coming undone, and you can easily tighten or loosen them to whatever strength you like. Plus, some functional running shoes end up looking bulky and tank-like, but DARIMATI, matching the vibe of the pop-up itself, keeps the shoe clean, simple and free of clutter — instant love at first sight 💯💯💯

Beige or gray, and which size to pick

The BR-001 at the pop-up currently comes in beige on the left, gray on the right. Warm-toned beige or cool-toned gray — you can pick according to your own taste 🤗

I always try shoes on in person to avoid sizing mistakes, and DARIMATI shoes come in sizes by increments of 10. That said, you can add or remove the included dedicated insole to fine-tune the fit.

There were 6 sizes to choose from in total, and after going back and forth between 230 and 240, I tried on the 230.

How the DARIMATI BR-001 feels: weight, grip and stability

My first impression was, 'this is so light and it really locks my ankle in place!' I think weight, grip and stability are the three most important things whether you're running, doing CrossFit, or training for HYROX, and DARIMATI nails all three perfectly!!!

• So light that the shoes I'd worn in earlier suddenly felt heavy by comparison
• Strong grip — when I stomped down hard and pushed off, my foot stayed locked in place instead of sliding
• Above all, the ankle is held firmly, so there's no wobble or rolling whether walking or working out

Every single point was flawless 👏🏻💕

And on top of that, the design is simple and pretty enough to style casually for everyday life or travel!

So pretty, right 🤍🤍

The store also had a big sofa where you could sit and take your time checking the fit while trying shoes on. It felt like such a thoughtful touch, honestly moving 🥹🥹💕 I've had plenty of times trying on new shoes standing up with nowhere to sit, hopping around on one foot ㅠㅠㅠ

Why size 230 in beige was the right choice for narrow feet

After trying both on, beige seemed to suit me better, so I went with size 230 in beige! The shoes were surprisingly comfortable and pretty — no reason not to buy, right?

Every time I planted my foot down and lifted it back up wearing the DARIMATI shoes, I felt like they helped my foot land evenly overall. That's when it clicked — that must be why the contact surface feels wide, comfortable and stable!

On top of that, the heel — the part that touches every time you put the shoes on or take them off — felt sturdy and firmly supported my ankle, actually solid, to the point I thought this shoe would never need heel repairs ㅋㅋㅋ👍🏻👍🏻 Since my ankles roll around a lot whenever I run, I have a strong feeling this will become a workout companion that protects my ankles and overall foot health 🫶🏻🍀

So I grabbed the included insole too 🙌🏻

And decided to buy the running cap too, currently available at an event price with any shoe purchase at the pop-up store!!!

The store also had magazines on display, and apparently the brand's founder loves books too, and put out a magazine introducing running shoes and Korean running courses for international readers…! I love analog paper magazines, so it really caught my eye 🥰
