Pocheon Korean restaurant with makguksu and tteokgalbi: Myeongimong
In short
Myeongimong is a Korean restaurant in Sinbuk-myeon, Pocheon, serving house-made buckwheat makguksu and charcoal-grilled tteokgalbi. I tried icy broth noodles, spicy-sweet mixed noodles, juicy tteokgalbi, and buckwheat dumplings, with outdoor tables and easy parking. Verdict: a quietly satisfying local Pocheon meal.

Buckwheat noodles and tteokgalbi loved by Pocheon locals
I was looking for a good place to eat in Pocheon when I heard Myeongimong was a local-approved spot for makguksu and tteokgalbi, so I had to visit :) When I arrived, older guests were already having tteokgalbi with bowls of makgeolli rice wine, which made me even more excited haha. It seems to be a Pocheon favorite already among local residents. This Pocheon restaurant was full of regulars!

Myeongimong, a Pocheon restaurant, has a spacious dining room and outdoor tables too, so it looked like a comfortable place to eat. It opens at 11:00 and closes at 20:00, with last orders at 19:20. It is the perfect kind of place for a bowl of makguksu while enjoying the cool breeze and the scenery.

House-made buckwheat makguksu and charcoal-grilled pork tteokgalbi
Whenever I visit a buckwheat noodle restaurant, I always check whether there is anything on the wall about buckwheat's benefits—and there it was, so I felt very reassured. Buckwheat is easy on the stomach and not too heavy, making buckwheat makguksu a great meal! Myeongimong is known not only for its house-made buckwheat makguksu but also for its charcoal-grilled pork tteokgalbi. Hearing that it uses 100% domestic pork, fresh vegetables and fruit, and a house secret sauce made by grinding them fresh had me so excited.

These are the side dishes that come with an order. There was one buckwheat pancake, seasoned vegetables, cabbage salad, shredded radish kimchi, and more. Every single side dish was neat and tasty.

You can take more side dishes from the self-service bar, as much as you can eat. Small plates and scissors are available there too. I loved being able to help myself without feeling awkward about asking!

Handmade charcoal-grilled tteokgalbi with a sweet-savory glaze
⭐️ Handmade charcoal-grilled tteokgalbi This set comes with one tteokgalbi patty and a bowl of rice. The handmade tteokgalbi is grilled in-house, and its sweet-savory seasoning sauce is the highlight. You can also choose a smaller or regular amount of rice, so you can order just what you will eat.

This juicy, moist tteokgalbi is grilled over charcoal right at the restaurant. It has a subtle smoky aroma, and the juices burst out with every bite. It would be perfect as a rice side for kids or a makgeolli snack for older guests :) The special sauce was sweet and salty in a way that paired beautifully with the tteokgalbi and kept calling for another bite of rice!

Refreshing mul makguksu and spicy-sweet bibim makguksu
⭐️ Mul makguksu I absolutely love buckwheat mul makguksu with little shards of ice floating in the broth!! These are not store-bought noodles; they are house-made buckwheat noodles, with that distinctive buckwheat texture really shining through.

The broth was clean and refreshing, the buckwheat noodles had a lovely chew, and I happily finished the cool bowl! It is not an elaborate sweet-and-salty style, but rather a mild, clean flavor that preserves the true charm of buckwheat makguksu. My parents also approved it as a Pocheon favorite because they loved the clean, refreshing broth haha.

⭐️ Bibim makguksu Myeongimong does both mul makguksu and bibim makguksu well. The sauce is not overly spicy—just nicely spicy and sweet—so anyone who likes seasoned noodles will enjoy it. It comes tossed with oil, making it spicy, sweet, and nutty all at once.

Buckwheat dumplings to pair with makguksu
⭐️ Buckwheat dumplings Dumplings and makguksu are simply meant to be together. You get five per bowl, and they are large dumplings generously filled with stuffing.

The meat dumplings were nicely filled, with a mild filling that suited the delicate buckwheat wrappers. They make a great side dish. They are also delicious soaked in the cool mul makguksu broth ☀️ My favorite way was to wrap them in noodles and soak them well in the broth!

A satisfying meal to stop for on a Pocheon trip
Among Pocheon restaurants, this is a spot locals already recognize for great makguksu and tteokgalbi. It was not flashy, but it offered a harmonious, mild, satisfying meal :) It is also close to Pocheon Art Valley and Pocheon Herb Island, with spacious, convenient parking. When you are traveling in Pocheon, I recommend a full tteokgalbi-and-makguksu meal at Myeongimong, a local favorite rather than a tourist-site restaurant 💚
