Anseong large café: snow patbingsu and bright hand-drip, Chat Baker

In short

Chat Baker Brunch & Bakery Café is a large brunch and bakery café on Seodong-daero in Gongdo, Anseong, Gyeonggi. The writer checked out the couch seats facing the water wall on the first floor and the floor and bar seating on the second, then tried the snow patbingsu (milk-ice shaved ice with red beans), Yeoksam-dong Tiger hand-drip coffee, salt bread, Mont Blanc and squid ink cream cheese chewy bread. The patbingsu was the best of the writer's year and the hand-drip had a distinct acidity, making Chat Baker a good café to linger over bread and coffee.

💡 Visit tip — Since it's open year-round, hours stay the same even on public holidays (like Liberation Day). Brunch and pasta orders close at 8pm (20:00), so keep that in mind if you're planning to eat a meal!

🚻 Head to the 2nd floor for the restroom! The shared restroom for the whole 1st-floor building is way too dim ㅠ but the 2nd-floor interior restroom was spotless and lovely!

1st floor: water-wall views and a doorless entrance

Chat Baker has no door at the entrance! Genuinely a different world — it sits open amid outlet-style clothing shops😆 I went in with high expectations since it's already famous as a large café in the Pyeongtaek-Anseong area, and the moment I walked in, the sheer scale left my jaw on the floor. Among Anseong's new cafés, the space planning here is really well done.

If you sit in the 1st-floor couch seats, you get a refreshing view of a water wall pouring down outside the window! Just watching it is so cooling, and it's the perfect spot to sit and zone out to the sound of falling water.

Take a look at the 1st-floor bread, cake, and dessert display! Choosing was genuinely hard ㅠ^ㅠ

2nd floor: floor and bar seating with a self-bar

Head up to Chat Baker's 2nd floor and the space is truly huge! There's floor seating, plush couches, regular tables, round seating, and even mood-lit bar tables — plenty of variety, so you can settle in wherever suits your taste or group size.

There are lots of thoughtfully placed interior touches too, so I'd strongly recommend this to anyone looking for an Anseong LP café or a date spot in Anseong. The interior restroom is also on the 2nd floor, and it was so clean and well-kept that I really loved it.

That bonsai-ish moss decoration on the 2nd floor — turns out it was actually alive!! You can see the roots from the 1st floor haha.

Nicely, the self-bar has cold and hot water separated, and there's even a Balmuda toaster so you can warm up your bread!

What we ordered at Chat Baker

Bakery and coffee spread at Chat Baker

With so many delicious cakes, cookies, drinks, and bakery items on offer, choosing was a happy dilemma. After much deliberation, here's what we finally picked!

  • Yeoksam-dong Tiger (hand-drip coffee)
  • Snow bingsu (shaved ice)
  • Squid ink cream cheese bread
  • Salt bread
  • Mont Blanc

Best bingsu of my life! Snow bingsu

Honestly, Chat Baker's snow bingsu was the best bingsu I've had all year! I enjoyed it even more than Sulbing, my favorite bingsu brand. It looks like a simple, classic red bean bingsu on the outside, but the quality of every single ingredient is amazing.

  • The milk ice is really rich and nutty-tasting (feels like they use a full-fat milk). Sweeter and richer than regular milk ❤️ Thinking about it now, it's kind of like Tuwang ice cream mixed with milk!! Really delicious 👍
  • The red beans still have bite — whole beans that clearly taste home-simmered in-house.
  • Even the rice cake on top is chewy and delicious like it's handmade.

At first I thought the price was a bit high, but after eating it, the portion was huge and the ingredient quality so good that it didn't feel overpriced at all. If you come to Chat Baker, you absolutely have to try the bingsu!

Standout acidity: Yeoksam-dong Tiger hand-drip

The menu description mentioned grapefruit bitterness, tangerine, and apricot notes, so I was curious and ordered the 'Yeoksam-dong Tiger' hand-drip! Once I tasted it, the pleasant acidity was seriously impressive. Not a burnt, bitter kind of taste, but a bright, clean flavor that showed off the bean's natural character — it paired perfectly with the bakery items.

Crispy-outside, tender-inside trio: salt bread, Mont Blanc, squid ink cream cheese bread

Chat Baker is also known as a go-to spot for salt bread in Anseong, and it shows even in the basics — full of buttery flavor with a beautifully balanced saltiness.

Chat Baker's Mont Blanc bread showing its layered texture

Mont Blanc, my household's all-time favorite bread! Can you see those distinct, layered folds of pastry? The moment it hits your mouth, it's moist and soft with a nutty butter aroma spreading through — the kind of taste literally everyone would like. Any guesses what that white powder is?? Sugar!!! Genuinely delicious sugar!!

And then, the one that hit my exact taste preference perfectly — squid ink cream cheese bread! Inside the chewy squid ink bread is a generous, rich filling of cream cheese, and the crunchy topping on top is incredibly crispy. It nails both texture and flavor, so I know I'll be craving it again soon!
