Gaepo-dong café with matcha cookies and fresh grapefruit tea: Minimale
In short
Minimale Bakery & Coffee Bar Gaepo Branch is a bakery café on a residential side street in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam, Seoul. The writer dropped in by chance on a neighborhood walk with a friend and ordered a Helsinki Latte, fresh grapefruit tea, salt bread and a matcha cookie. Because it was around 3 p.m., the Blossom Babka was already sold out. The Helsinki Latte is excellent, but the matcha cookie at Minimale Gaepo is the real winner, scoring '200 points' out of 100.

This is my honest, paid-out-of-pocket review of Minimale Bakery & Coffee Bar Gaepo Branch, a café with a lovely mood tucked quietly into a calm residential alley in Gaepo-dong!

Minimale Gaepo, found on a walk through Gaepo-dong
I found Minimale Bakery & Coffee Bar Gaepo Branch while walking around Gaepo-dong with a friend! Honestly, we weren't planning on a café, but there were so many people inside that I got curious and went in. I can't stand not knowing, you know? haha

A good stop during a walk with your dog?
At Minimale Gaepo you can scan the menu from outside without even going in, and you can also order easily by QR code. It looked like a great place to stop for takeout or a coffee while walking your dog. One little pup was waiting outside so calmly, such a smart good boy~!!

Minimale Gaepo opening hours and seating
- Weekdays: 08:00 – 19:00
- Weekends / public holidays: 09:30 – 18:00

The interior of Minimale Gaepo is done in black tones, so the mood feels calm. When I walked in, someone was actually reading a book. It's a small space with about two 4-person tables and two 2-person tables, but it doesn't feel cramped or stuffy, and the tables are spaced out comfortably.

Bakery or coffee: what is Minimale famous for?
The moment you step inside Minimale Gaepo, the bakery selection is the first thing you notice. The name says Bakery & Coffee, so I wondered which one it's known for, but the coffee smell was so good and the bakery items looked so varied and tasty that I concluded it's both haha

Visiting at 3 p.m.: the Blossom Babka was sold out
Minimale Gaepo has a wide variety of baked goods, but I came around 3 p.m. and there wasn't much bread left :( Good places really do need an early visit :(( I especially wanted to try the Blossom Babka, but sadly it was sold out :((
What is 'babka'? A traditional Eastern European bread whose name comes from 'baba', meaning 'grandmother' in Slavic languages. Grandmothers made it the day before the Sabbath, twisting the dough prettily with various seeds and nuts for a rich, nutty bread.

Besides babka, they had salt bread, egg tarts, scones, New York cookies and more on display. I loved that each one was wrapped individually in plastic. I'm not a fan of places that sell them open-air :(

Starting with the moist-looking New York cookie, everything looked so delicious that my friend and I kept agonizing as we chose.

Minimale Gaepo menu, beans and how to order
At Minimale Gaepo you can scan the menu inside the shop too. Looking at the menu, you can see there are three kinds of coffee beans.

Three coffee machines at the counter, whoa!

There's also a kiosk inside the shop, so ordering was easy and done.

Drinks and desserts we ordered with my friend
- Helsinki Latte
- Fresh grapefruit tea
- Salt bread
- Matcha cookie

Why is the Helsinki Latte Minimale's signature?
I'd read reviews saying the Helsinki Latte is Minimale's signature, so of course I ordered it. I instantly understood why it's the shop's flagship drink. It's said to reinterpret the memory of a smooth, rich latte from a trip to Northern Europe! The sweetness is not overdone, just right, and the milk and espresso go well together!!

Fresh grapefruit tea for fans of refreshing flavors
The grapefruit tea at Minimale Gaepo doesn't taste like syrup. It's made with real fresh grapefruit blended in, so I recommend it if you like something refreshing!

Salt bread: crispy outside, moist inside, buttery
Salt bread, my all-time favorite bread!!

Minimale's salt bread has insane butter flavor, salty and nutty, the very definition of crispy outside and moist inside.

Is the matcha cookie at Minimale Gaepo a must-eat?
If you go to Minimale Gaepo, please eat the matcha cookie. It's seriously so good :(( Crispy outside and fudgy inside, with a deep matcha aroma, and I inhaled it. If you come here, I strongly recommend you try the matcha cookie without fail!!
A quiet bakery café near Yangjae Stream! The special Helsinki Latte is excellent too, but the matcha cookie is a true 200 out of 100!!
