Why the weekend wait sent us home, and a day off brought us back

Ending my day with this one! A hot-off-the-press review of my Namyangju hotspot visit today 💗 Actually, I stopped by last weekend and had to turn back in tears because the wait was insane! Since I had a day off today, I gave it another shot — and it worked out 🙂 This is Waltz and Dr. Mahn, a Bukhan River view spot and Namyangju café.

Waltz and Dr. Mahn boasts an exterior full of antique charm, from the slightly reddish brick onward. The 2nd floor operates as a coffee museum, while the restaurant-cum-café runs on the 1st floor.

Look at this Bukhan River view ⛰️ You can see it directly from Waltz and Dr. Mahn! With lush green mountains behind the river, just looking at it felt healing. The heat has eased up a bit lately too, so just gazing at it was enough 🙂 I walked into the café already full of expectations.

Is Waltz and Dr. Mahn busy at 3pm on a weekday?

It's clearly a weekday today... (though yes, it's Friday and right before a long holiday haha) but I was surprised there were so many customers even at around 3pm. No wonder the weekend wait was insane 🥺 Still, I got lucky and grabbed the one remaining window seat haha.

(Let's take a look at the view from the window seat together~) A quiet, classic indoor atmosphere paired with the peaceful Bukhan River unfolding outside the window... the phrase 'picture-perfect view' came to me naturally. By the way, my husband says it's his No. 1 most memorable Namyangju café! (I think so too haha)

They also run a restaurant with meal options, but since we came for the café side 🙂 there were so many kinds of hand-drip coffee that I think I agonized for a good 10 minutes over what to order.

Coffee ☕️ that makes you happy just looking at it. I usually go for iced, but since hand-drip coffee felt like it should be enjoyed hot to get the real experience, I ordered it warm. Served in the antique cups I saw earlier, it made me even happier for no particular reason 🥰

Honor and Chevalier: coffee that doubles as dessert

This standout-looking drink is Waltz and Dr. Mahn's Honor and Chevalier. It's said to be made in honor of medieval chivalry, and doesn't the name alone sound cool?! Over cold-brew coffee, it's piled high with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, macarons, and seasonal fruit, making it both a coffee and a dessert in one. Sweetness spread through my whole mouth with every sip, and I found myself smiling with each bite. If you like sweet drinks, this one is a must 💗

The hand-drip coffee at Waltz and Dr. Mahn was perfect. Of course I haven't had a huge number of hand-drip coffees, but I think temperature is really the key factor that determines the aroma and flavor of hand-drip coffee. It was served at just the right temperature — not too hot, but not cooling off too fast — so I could fully taste Yergacheffe's distinctive acidity all the way to the last sip.

The red velvet cheesecake was fluffy and soft like castella, so it never felt heavy! Paired with the mellow hand-drip coffee, the combination was so harmonious. (Plus, the view outside the window was perfect too.)

Since 1989: the café that appeared on Tasty Road

As the 'Since 1989' tagline suggests, Waltz and Dr. Mahn boasts a long tradition, and on my way out I noticed it had even appeared on Tasty Road before! Do you happen to know Tasty Road..?! (If you do, you're probably around my age or older haha)

A happy time filled with delicious coffee and dessert, plus the breathtaking Bukhan River and green mountain view — it was perfect in every way.
