Why I wanted a sugar-free soy milk for quick mornings

Do you all eat breakfast, neighbors? I absolutely have to eat breakfast!! I got into the habit back in school days, and now if I skip it I just get hungry lol

But when you're getting ready for work or school, finding time for breakfast is hard... 🥺 So you end up looking for something simple to drink that isn't too sweet like a regular beverage!

This time I tried Garu Seonsaeng Saeng Soy Milk Baektae!! It was my first time trying soy milk in powder form, so it felt novel. True to its name, it's soy milk you mix with water! Soy milk mixed with water, how interesting lol. Today's review is for Garu Seonsaeng Saeng Soy Milk Baektae 99.3~!!

Front of the Garu Seonsaeng Saeng Soy Milk Baektae package

What is baektae (white soybean) soy milk?

What is baektae? It's the common yellow soybean we typically eat, widely used to make tofu, doenjang (fermented soybean paste), soy milk and more! Baektae soy milk is soy milk made by grinding these beans~!

Back of the package showing ingredient list

Ingredients: only 99.3% Korean soybeans and 0.7% sea salt

I flipped it over and the ingredient list was genuinely simple 🤭 Checking the product description, Garu Seonsaeng Saeng Soy Milk Baektae has only soybeans (Korean) 99.3% and sea salt 0.7%! On top of that, only 2g of sugar, which is totally my type.

Sugar content and ingredients are always what I check before buying, and Garu Seonsaeng is made unsweetened so I love that it's healthy! (I genuinely love sweet desserts but I don't drink sweet drinks ㅠㅠ)

Checking the unsweetened powdered soy milk packaging labels
Part of the packaging showing shelf life and storage instructions

The shelf life was 12 months from the manufacture date, and it just said to store away from direct sunlight, so storage is super convenient lol

The included dedicated spoon

The package includes its own measuring scoop

Oh lol they give you a spoon too?? Since it's powder, having a spoon makes it way easier, good good! I used to wonder whether I should use the spoon from protein powder I bought ages ago, but that worry is totally solved now~~!! 🤭 Even better, the spoon fits right into the Garu Seonsaeng package! It fits even when the package is full of powder?

How many spoonfuls per glass of water?

It's totally powdery~~!! It says to scoop 2 of the included spoons and mix with water. But if you want to have less, you can just do your own thing lol hehe. I have 1.5 spoons, since it's protein it fills you up.

You just scoop out what you need and mix with water, so there's no need to keep soy milk stored separately in the fridge, good good. When going out or traveling, portioning it out seems like it'd be relatively easy to pack!!

It seems decent for a light protein boost after working out, and good for someone like me who watches sugar intake, and... would it be okay for little kids too..?? I haven't raised kids so I'm not sure, but since the ingredients seem healthy, it seems fine as a snack.

What does Garu Seonsaeng Baektae 99.3 taste like in water?

Hahaha, time to mix it and drink~~!! I put in 1.5 spoons first!! Then added water~ shake shake!!!!

A glass of baektae soy milk shaken with water

Oh??? Oh????????? Oh oh..??? It's definitely a really nutty soy milk with real bean flavor! I'm not a huge fan of sweet soy milk. But since this is literally bean powder mixed with water, it has a clean, nutty bean taste!! Quite a lot to my taste lolol. I mixed it with water, but I bet it'd be good with milk too?

The glass after finishing the soy milk

Right after drinking, my first thought was that if you mixed it strong, added salt and sugar, and threw in some agar jelly, it'd be delicious lolol. No really, I think it'd taste good made exactly like that lol. I should go check if I have agar at home 🤣🤣

Who this sugar-free powdered soy milk suits

These days I tend to check the actual ingredients rather than just look for the words 'unsweetened,' and Garu Seonsaeng Saeng Soy Milk Baektae genuinely has nothing but baektae beans and salt in it, so good!

If you're someone who'd rather drink clean baektae soy milk instead of sweet drinks, this will suit you well! (like me haha) When you're short on time in the morning, mixing it simply with water or pairing it with bread or fruit could make a decent meal! For anyone who loves the nutty, clean taste of soybeans itself, I'd recommend Garu Seonsaeng Saeng Soy Milk Baektae >-< 👍
