Gangnam barber shop for a Ga-il cut and side down perm: Divers

My hair is very curly, so as soon as it gets a little longer, the top and sides puff up and make my whole head look bulky. I visited Divers Barbershop Gangnam-gu Office Station Branch (다이버스 바버샵 강남구청역점) because I wanted to tidy it up while making my everyday styling easier.

I arrived quickly on foot from Gangnam-gu Office Station. It was convenient because I did not have to walk far even in the hot weather, and on the building's first basement level, I found a barbershop with a classic atmosphere.

The space is small but organized, so it did not feel crowded. Since two barbers run the shop, I thought that visiting with a reservation would make for a relaxed appointment.

How did I discuss curly hair that sticks out?

Once seated, I first talked about my current hair condition and what usually bothers me. The longer my hair gets, the more the top lifts and the sides spread out, so we chose a style while considering that cutting it too short could make it stick up even more.

After the consultation, we decided to shape the overall look with a Ga-il cut, a Korean men's hairstyle, and use a down perm to lay down the sides that had been my main concern.

How did the Ga-il cut and side down perm go?

First, the grown-out hair was trimmed overall. I usually just ask for it to be cut short, but this time the shape was created by keeping natural volume on top while tidying the sides. Adding a down perm to the outward-sticking sides visibly made them lie flatter.

The Ga-il cut looked neat without feeling heavy or stuffy, and what I liked most was the smoother side line from the down perm. In the small shop, it felt as though the barber was focused on me, checking the style as they worked, which made me comfortable. The cut and perm together took about an hour.

Afterward, the sides sat closer to my head, making the area around my face look less cramped. The top retained a moderate amount of volume, and the neat silhouette did not look overly styled, so I felt it would be easy to wear day to day.

Was it easy to style after washing my hair at home?

What satisfied me most was how easy it was to manage at home. There were times when my hair looked fine after styling at the shop but became puffy again at home; this time, even after washing it, the sides did not stick out as severely as before.

Even with a light blow-dry and quick tidying, the shape held to some extent. I thought this could also reduce the time I spend styling my hair in the morning.

What did I like most about this visit?

It was easy to visit because it is close to the station, and I was satisfied with the careful process from the consultation through the cut and styling. In particular, I liked that the top kept its volume while my outward-sticking sides were calmed down. It suited my goal for this visit: tidying hair that looks bulky because of my curls.
