On days when I crave meat, there's one place that naturally comes to mind: Dongbaek Hanokjip Charcoal Grill Butcher Restaurant in Dongbaek, Yongin.

I was so happy with my last visit that this was already my second time. It's a great spot for family meals and gatherings, so I came back for dinner, and it didn't let me down.
What's the atmosphere like at Dongbaek Hanokjip?
Dongbaek Hanokjip Charcoal Grill Butcher Restaurant is a space where the charm and comfort of a hanok (traditional Korean house) live together. The interior is spacious and pleasant, and there's even a self-bar.

When you arrive, the neat hanok feel catches your eye first. True to its name, it brings hanok atmosphere into a modern space, and the warm, cozy vibe was lovely.

Inside, it keeps that friendly hanok character while still feeling wide and airy, so it was comfortable to eat in.
The layout lets everyone from families to groups dine at ease, and it was kept clean overall, which made me even happier.
Self-bar setup
The self-bar on one side was impressive too. Fresh wrap greens and various side dishes were laid out neatly, so you can help yourself to as much as you need.
From lettuce and perilla leaves to sides that go well with meat, there was plenty to build a generous spread.
Is parking easy at Dongbaek Hanokjip?
There's a generous dedicated parking area right in front of the restaurant, with room for several cars at once. I was happy with the parking convenience too.
Even at busy times like dinner, I could visit without worrying about parking, so it's no hassle for family meals or group gatherings.

Marinated pork ribs with natural-fruit seasoning
The main dish that day was the marinated pork ribs, 500g (₩44,000). Watching the ribs turn golden over the charcoal, my expectations just kept climbing.

The marinade is aged with plenty of natural fruit, so the sweetness felt natural and soft rather than artificial.

The seasoning doesn't soak in too heavily, so you can still taste the pork itself. In one bite, the outside had a subtle charcoal aroma and the inside was still juicy. Really delicious.

The more I chewed, the more the savory sweetness of the fruit marinade blended with the charcoal smoke into a deep flavor.

The meat is especially tender, so people of all ages can enjoy it without any fuss. Wrapped in fresh greens, it tasted even cleaner and I couldn't stop eating.
A must-order: hanok doenjang stew
The hanok doenjang stew (₩7,000) is made with a richly simmered broth, and it had far deeper flavor than the doenjang stew at a typical BBQ restaurant.

It's no accident that it's called the recommended side dish here.

The deep, nutty flavor of the long-simmered broth really stood out. It tasted much richer than the doenjang stew at an ordinary BBQ place.

The salty-savory doenjang came through, and eaten with the meat it did a great job of cleansing the palate.
Every spoonful carried the deep taste of the richly brewed broth, and it's the kind of stew that makes you finish a whole bowl of rice.
Rice made with Hwaseong's specialty Suhyangmi
The bowl of rice (₩1,000) uses Suhyangmi, a specialty of Hwaseong. The nutty aroma that spread the moment it arrived was lovely. Each glossy grain stood out, with just the right stickiness to go with meat.

One piece of marinated rib, a spoonful of Suhyangmi rice and some doenjang stew made a truly filling meal.

It reminded me again that good rice makes a difference.
Homemade bibim naengmyeon that rivals a naengmyeon specialist
The homemade bibim naengmyeon (₩8,000) uses house-made buckwheat noodles, and you can feel the difference from the noodles alone. You can't skip naengmyeon when you're eating meat, right?

The noodles were chewy and springy, and the secret sauce was sweet, tangy and full of savory depth. It isn't just spicy for the sake of it; the natural ingredients come through, so the finish was clean.

Eaten with the marinated ribs, the charcoal-smoky meat and the tangy bibim naengmyeon made the best combination.
One bite of meat, one scoop of bibim naengmyeon, and I understood all over again why so many people order naengmyeon at BBQ restaurants.
Verdict: how satisfying is a return visit to Dongbaek Hanokjip?
Dongbaek Hanokjip Charcoal Grill Butcher Restaurant satisfied me on everything: the taste of the meat, the atmosphere of the space and the completeness of the meal.

You get charcoal-scented marinated ribs in a friendly hanok atmosphere, plus a neat self-bar and quality side dishes, so my satisfaction was very high.
The natural-fruit marinated pork ribs balanced sweetness and charcoal aroma beautifully, and nothing was lacking, from the deep doenjang stew and fragrant Suhyangmi rice to the homemade bibim naengmyeon that rivals a specialist.
With a spacious, pleasant hanok-style space, a tidy self-bar, charcoal-scented marinated ribs and a wide parking area in front, it's also very convenient to visit.
Whether it's a family meal, company dinner, gathering or date, I'd recommend it as a place where you'll enjoy a satisfying meal.
A place that puts care and quality into every piece of meat. If you're looking for a delicious, charcoal-scented dinner, I confidently recommend Dongbaek Hanokjip Charcoal Grill Butcher Restaurant. 😊
