Danyang bakery visited four times for garlic bread sets: Danppang
In short
Danppang Bakery is a garlic bread bakery inside Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. On this fourth visit, we packed two sets combining Danyang garlic bread, Danyang cream cheese, black garlic cream cheese and sweet potato custard, and even on a weekday there was a short line. The garlic flavour at Danppang Bakery is deep without being harsh, which makes it an easy snack or gift to carry home from a Danyang trip.

A must-buy every time I visit Danyang
A Danyang Gugyeong Market favorite Danppang Bakery
Why we joined the line at Danppang Bakery, four visits ago
Danppang Bakery is a garlic bread shop inside Danyang Gugyeong Market, and it's become a place I always stop by whenever I come to Danyang. The first time, I hadn't planned to go there at all. I was just wandering around the market when I spotted a long line of people. What's this about? I wondered, and once I noticed everyone walking out holding bread, I got pulled in and stood in line too haha. Back then I just figured it must be famous and bought some, but after one bite my whole opinion changed.

From my second Danyang trip onward, the moment I arrive at the market I naturally go "oh! gotta get the garlic bread~" and head straight for Danppang Bakery haha. This visit was already my fourth. At this point it's basically a required stop on my Danyang itinerary.

Is there a line at Danppang Bakery on weekdays?
Since I went on a weekday, the line wasn't as brutal as my first visit, but there was still a wait, no question haha. I guess a place this famous draws a line even on weekdays.

Danppang Bakery has already been featured on several TV shows like Saengsaeng Jeongbotong and Daehanminguk Live, so it's pretty well known among people searching for Danyang Gugyeong Market favorites. It's also great for picking up snacks or gifts while browsing the market, so it seems to draw a lot of travelers.

Danppang Bakery bread types and what goes in a set
Danppang Bakery sells several kinds of bread. There's Danyang cream cheese, black garlic cream cheese, sweet potato custard, and Danyang garlic bread — plenty of options to pick based on taste. But honestly, there's no need to agonize over the choice here.

No question about it, I ordered the set haha. Packed two sets!! I got the set so I could try a bunch of flavors at once. Because... every single one is delicious. Picking just one felt like too much of a loss. If you're eating with a group, I'd recommend getting a set and splitting one of each. Especially if it's your first time visiting Danyang, it's worth trying a few flavors to find your favorite. Still, if you had to name Danppang Bakery's signature item, it's got to be the Danyang garlic bread, right?

What Danyang garlic bread tastes like
Personally, I find Danppang Bakery's garlic bread has a noticeably deeper garlic flavor than other garlic breads. When people say "garlic bread," they usually picture something sweet with butter and garlic blended together, but Danppang's version has a pretty distinct, unmistakable garlic character.

That said, the garlic isn't overpowering or sharply pungent. The sweet, nutty flavor of the bread comes through together with the garlic, so you just keep reaching for another piece. And this is just my own theory, but I think it also helps that Danyang garlic itself is really good. Ever since my mom bought garlic in Danyang once, she's only bought Danyang garlic since — she says it's clearly tastier. Compared to regular garlic, it apparently has less of that sharp bite, tastes cleaner, but still carries a strong garlic character. Maybe that's why the garlic bread here tastes like it has a deeper garlic flavor.

Why Danppang Bakery garlic bread works as a Danyang trip snack or gift
Take a bite and first you get the soft, nutty taste of the bread, then the fragrant, rich garlic flavor rises up after. If you like sweet garlic bread, this is an easy, approachable flavor, and if you're a garlic lover, it'll suit you even more. Koreans gotta eat plenty of garlic, right haha. If you're visiting Danyang looking for a tasty snack or something to bring as a gift, I'd recommend Danppang Bakery. It's also a plus that it's right inside Danyang Gugyeong Market, so you can stop by while browsing the market. Walk the market, eat some good food, and finish up by packing garlic bread from Danppang Bakery — that's the perfect Danyang trip itinerary.
I'm the kind of person who buys it every single time I come to Danyang, and it's the kind of flavor that quietly stays on your mind once you've tried it. It wasn't even on my plan the first time — I just followed people standing in line and bought some, and now I automatically get in line whenever I'm in Danyang haha. This being my fourth visit already even makes me laugh a bit. At this point I think it deserves to be called a must-do on any Danyang trip.
Looking for a Danyang Gugyeong Market favorite? Danppang Bakery, recommended!

From Danyang garlic bread to cream cheese, black garlic cream cheese, and sweet potato custard, you can try a good range of flavors, so if it's your first time, I'd recommend getting the set. It's a spot that's a shame to just pass by on a Danyang trip. Try it once, and if you like it, you might find yourself naturally heading there on your next Danyang trip too, saying "gotta get the garlic bread~" just like me haha. If you stop by Danyang Gugyeong Market, be sure to check out the good food and grab some garlic bread from Danppang Bakery too!
