With the seasons changing, I wanted to refresh my mood and tidy up my messy hair, so I finally got my hair done after a long while. This time I visited Salon Of Gangseo Branch, a hair salon in Gangseo-dong, Cheongju.

The salon is on the 2nd floor, unit 202, of a commercial building directly across from Gangseo Berry Good 2-cha, so it was really easy to find even on my first visit.

Honestly, Gangseo-dong is one of those neighborhoods where the alleys get complicated and parking is an absolute hell, so I always feel a bit anxious driving there.

Salon Of Gangseo Branch has a nicely maintained dedicated parking lot in the building's basement, so I was really glad to have zero parking stress.

I booked a reservation for around 10am on a Sunday, right when they open, and there was plenty of space in the basement, so I parked easily and took the elevator up to the 2nd floor. 🌸

The moment I stepped through the door, the open, high ceiling and the clean, sleek white-toned interior caught my eye first.

With the high ceiling and bright white decor, the space felt really open, and it stayed comfortable the whole time I was there without ever feeling cramped.

The waiting area had soft, stylish seating, and the shampoo room was kept clean and tidy too, which really showed careful attention to hygiene. ✨

Pre-treatment hair condition and one-on-one consultation

Before the treatment, my natural hair was thin and dry, the type that frizzes easily. Since it has no strength, even just blow-drying damages it quickly, so it's sensitive — I'd been getting a perm about once every six months and trimming only the damaged ends in between, barely holding onto my length.

To figure out my exact hair condition, the designer first did a light shampoo, then moved into a one-on-one consultation. She asked in detail about the issues I usually have with my hair and the style I wanted, and kindly recommended a design direction that would suit my face shape and hair texture most naturally, which made it really easy to decide.

The layered perm process, mixing C-curls and S-curls

After the cut, she started applying the perm solution and moved into the neutralizing step. While I waited, she brought out a cool drink and some snacks so I could stay hydrated and have a sugar boost, which kept things from feeling boring.

After the consultation, we decided on a layered perm design that brings out overall fullness and volume. My hair already had a bit of layering, but to bring out more dimension in the curl, she trimmed the layers a bit more carefully with the cut, set the bottom ends with a firm C-curl, and mixed in a naturally flowing S-curl up top. 😋

Since I wanted thick, plump waves rather than fine little ones, she rolled thick rollers firmly, connected them to the heating machine, and did about 15 minutes of heat processing.

The moment she took the rollers out after the heat processing, seeing the bouncy, springy waves already gave me a strong feeling it was going to turn out great, even before washing.

After that, I moved to the shampoo room to rinse thoroughly, then lay back comfortably for a while to let the curls set and absorb nutrients. 🌸

Finally, sitting back down to dry my wet hair, the bouncy, natural curl I'd pictured in my head came out exactly the way I'd hoped, and I couldn't help but gasp.

While drying my hair, she shared really detailed home-care tips for styling it easily on my own, just like fresh out of the salon — from a simple drying method of turning the hair back and forth, to tips for filling in volume at the crown and sides. She explained it all so kindly and clearly that even someone as clumsy as me could easily follow along.

Before and after, and overall thoughts

Comparing the frizzy, limp before to the after, where the layers and curls connect elegantly and the volume really comes to life, I was genuinely very satisfied. Not just the pretty perm, but the base layered cut line was also done so carefully that I plan to trust Salon Of Gangseo Branch with my hair care for a while.
