To cut to the chase, I think I can honestly call this the absolute best Korean BBQ restaurant in Cheongju that I’ve visited so far, for its atmosphere, flavor, and presentation. Every single thing was delicious—from the meat and sides to the sauces, cold ramen, and pork skin—so my mom and I kept marveling the whole time ♡

Anmin Cheongju location, reservations, and parking in Bongmyeong-dong
Anmin Cheongju was tucked inside an alley in Bongmyeong-dong. There was parking in front of the restaurant, but every spot was taken when I visited. We parked in the alley right opposite and found a spot more quickly than expected, so parking wasn’t too difficult for us ♡

I visited with a reservation already made. We could go straight in thanks to the reservation, but there were several parties waiting when we arrived. Since it’s such a popular Bongmyeong-dong meat spot, I recommend booking ahead if you’d like a relaxed meal!

A calm, upscale dining-style interior
As soon as I stepped inside, I was a little surprised by how polished and upscale it felt! Dark gray was used throughout, with wooden tables and soft lighting creating such a calm, atmospheric space. It felt closer to fine dining than a typical Korean BBQ restaurant..♡
There were posters for Mildam highballs and cocktails on the wall, too. I’m not sure whether it was the Mildam I know, but the moment I saw them, my expectations for the highballs and cocktails shot right up haha.
And when we sat down, it said we were Anmin’s 57,827th guests. How do they even keep track of things like that? So fascinating!

The spoon and chopsticks laid out on the table were incredibly neat, too. Each pair of chopsticks was wrapped with a paper band, and that little detail felt so thoughtful. Even the water had a subtly nutty flavor, as though something had been gently steeped in it (◜◡◝)
We first ordered the 450g whole-pig half set, creamy draft beer, and a non-alcoholic green apple highball on the table kiosk, then added cold ramen halfway through the meal!

Corkage-free drinks and the starter spread
I spotted this while looking through the menu: Anmin Cheongju is corkage-free!! Good meat calls for good drinks, right? You can bring the alcohol you want and enjoy it without an extra corkage charge, so please keep this place in mind if you’re looking for a corkage-free Korean BBQ restaurant in Cheongju ദ്ദി

Before long, the basic side dishes and sauces to enjoy with the meat arrived. Just looking at the spread, doesn’t it seem so tidy, elegant, and varied? (ෆ˙ᵕ˙ෆ) I also loved that each sauce came with an explanation, so we knew what we were eating ♡

Our non-alcoholic green apple highball and creamy draft beer arrived, too. We were told to stir the green apple highball well as we drank it, and to squeeze in the lemon on the side if we wanted more acidity in the creamy draft beer.

A refreshing green highball and draft beer topped with soft foam! They looked so pretty and suited the restaurant’s atmosphere perfectly. My mom and I clinked glasses—cheers~ ♡

The whole-pig half set, grilled for us
At last, the star of the day—the whole-pig half set—made its appearance ♡

A staff member grilled the meat for us right beside the table. Even the color of the pork as it went over the charcoal was seriously unreal ದ്ദി(៸៸›ᴗ‹៸៸ ) Can you see that golden-brown exterior and moist pink cross-section..?

They also grilled eggplant and shishito peppers alongside the meat. It was so hard to wait because it smelled that good (´•̥̥̥ω•̥̥̥) They neatly placed the first perfectly cooked pieces on our individual plates and recommended trying the first bite with a light dip in songhwa salt.
Just as they suggested, I took a bite with only a little songhwa salt, and—wait, was this really pork? It was soft to chew and then simply disappeared in my mouth. From that first bite, my mom and I exchanged eye contact that said, “This place is so good!”

The staff member neatly arranged the cooked meat and vegetables on the mini brazier in front of us. The first combination was already this delicious, so suddenly I was in a hurry to try all the other sauces too! ( ˘༥˘ )♡

Next, I tried it with a little shiitake wasabi. The gentle shiitake aroma and sharp wasabi brought out the meat’s flavor beautifully, without being overly seasoned. I also dipped the pork deeply into the cooked galchi sokjeot (salted hairtail innards). Its distinctive savory richness was there, but it wasn’t too salty or pungent, so it never covered up the pork’s nutty flavor.
We also had it with the dressed cabbage and tried the nicely cooked shishito peppers with salt. The meat, vegetables, and sauces all seemed like familiar ingredients, so why did they taste this refined and delicious? ♡ Not one side dish felt carelessly made, and I thought, ah, a popular Bongmyeong-dong meat restaurant really is different.

Cold ramen alongside the grilled pork
While eating the meat, we ordered cold ramen to refresh our palates. My mom wanted it even colder, so we asked for extra ice. That’s why the noodles may look a little firm in the photos haha. Personally, I recommend having it as served, without adding extra ice!

It had the feel of chilled buckwheat noodles from a Japanese restaurant. Rather than a heavy, intense broth, it was like a clean, refined chilled soba broth with ramen noodles swapped in. It freshened the mouth after the meat, making it perfect to have in the middle of the meal. Rich, fatty pork with cool cold ramen is an unbeatable combination ♡

This time, I dipped pork belly deeply in the cheese sauce. The sweet, nutty cheese flavor went so well with the tender meat. It felt like a combination kids would love, too. And I made sure to enjoy the golden grilled eggplant beside the meat as well ♡

Barley ssamjang and incredibly tender pork skin
The sauce that surprised my mom and me the most was the barley ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste dipping sauce)! Ssamjang is often strongly seasoned or salty, but Anmin’s barley ssamjang was not salty at all. It had barley in it, so you could feel the pleasantly chewy grains with every bite.
“I’ve never had such an upscale ssam in my life!”
I put meat and garlic on lettuce, added a generous spoonful of barley ssamjang, and took one big bite~ I thought it would be an ordinary pork wrap, but every ingredient came together so beautifully that both my mom and I kept exclaiming over it ♡

The whole-pig half set also included pork skin. Since it can become hard if grilled too early, they cooked it last, when we had nearly finished the meat ദ്ദി The pork skin looked absolutely crazy too, right..?

The pork skin I usually eat has a strong chewy, bouncy texture, but Anmin’s pork skin was amazingly soft! It wasn’t tough at all and chewed so gently, making it easy to enjoy. Coated generously in the nutty curry soybean powder, it was perfect right through the final bite..♡

A Cheongju meal my mom and I loved
My mom was genuinely so satisfied with Anmin Cheongju until the meal was over. I was happy too, simply because I felt like I’d brought her somewhere delicious haha ♡
Not only was the pork itself tender and delicious, but the variety of accompaniments—songhwa salt, shiitake wasabi, galchi sokjeot, cheese sauce, and barley ssamjang—paired wonderfully with it. It was fun choosing a different combination for every bite. The staff grilled everything for us as well, so we could eat comfortably (thank you!!)
With its polished atmosphere, upscale table setting, and corkage-free policy, it’s perfect for a Cheongju date or a special occasion! Anmin Cheongju was among the most satisfying Korean BBQ restaurants I’ve visited in Cheongju. I came with my mom this time, but next time I definitely want to bring my boyfriend too. The upscale, stylish setting would be perfect for a Cheongju anniversary course or date! If you’re looking for a truly delicious Bongmyeong-dong meat restaurant or a Cheongju Korean BBQ recommendation, I really, really recommend Anmin. It was such a delicious meal that it made me so happy..♡ Please stay open for a long, long time, owner. I’ll really come often ♡´・ᴗ・`♡
