While deciding where to have dinner with my mom, we went to Sannae Sutbul Galbi (산내숯불갈비) so we could also stop by Bakdal Market. When looking for a meat restaurant around Bakdal-dong in Anyang, I thought being close to the market would be handy—we could do a little shopping before or after the meal. It was actually about a three-minute walk from Bakdal Market, so it was easy to find too.

When we opened the door and walked in, the interior was neatly arranged, and the wood-toned traditional décor you expect from a galbi restaurant really stood out, haha. The owner gave us such a warm welcome that I had a good first impression right away.

Sannae Sutbul Galbi in Bakdal-dong also has a separate room for groups, so it seems like just the right place for family gatherings as well as company dinners in Bakdal-dong. I thought it would be nice for a larger group to sit together and chat over a meal too. It may be more convenient to ask ahead if you would like to use the room.

Dining area with spacious table spacing

There was plenty of space between the tables, so I could comfortably look around while we got ready to eat. It would be a nice place to bring your parents after visiting the market.

Korean Pork Galbi and Side Dishes

Korean pork galbi order

The Korean pork galbi here is a generous 250g for ₩15,000, which felt like good value considering the portion and the meal setup. Prices are so high these days, after all, haha. We ordered three portions of galbi along with doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) and gonggibap (a bowl of steamed rice). It was plenty for two, with rice making it a satisfying meal.

Basic side dishes served with galbi

The basic side dishes arrived one by one: kimchi, baekkimchi (mild white kimchi), wasabi, black sesame salad, shredded scallions, and pickled onions. They were all great accompaniments between bites of sweet and savory galbi! The white kimchi and pickled onions especially refreshed the palate now and then. Before the galbi was cooked, I put a little of each side dish onto our small plates and got ready to eat. That way, we could pair everything right away without missing the grilling rhythm.

Galbi That Came Alive Over Charcoal

Soon, the pork galbi arrived, with meat still attached to the bones, and I thought, oh, this place is the real deal. That is the tastiest part, after all.

Pork galbi placed on a charcoal grill

Once it went onto the grill, the charcoal aroma slowly rose up and seriously fired up my empty-stomach appetite.

Since it was marinated, we turned it often so it would not burn, then cut it into bite-sized pieces.

Maybe because it had been a while, but every piece tasted absolutely amazing. It really is best with pickled onions, isn’t it? We cooked the meat around the bones a little longer, then neatly pulled it off and enjoyed every bit. It was tender, not tough. We came here especially because my mom loves galbi, so I was relieved when she said it was delicious. Hearing that made me feel like I had chosen well for no reason at all!

Galbi with Black Sesame Salad

The owner told us that the galbi would be good with black sesame salad or wasabi. We tried them one at a time as suggested, and the nutty black sesame and sweet galbi went together much better than I expected. After that, I ate it only with the black sesame salad, hahaha. I am glad we did not finish all the black sesame salad at the start and saved enough to pair with the galbi!

With the soybean paste stew and bowls of rice too, it became a warm and filling dinner.

If you are choosing a meat restaurant in Bakdal-dong and considering access, the table spread, and a relaxed atmosphere together, I think this is a place worth remembering. Being able to combine market browsing and dinner suited my mom and me perfectly.

It was dinner shared with my mom while we caught up on little things for the first time in a while, so I think it will stay with me even longer.
