Anyang bar for gopdoritang: Bueongi Sanjang Beomgye

Today’s post is about my visit to Bueongi Sanjang Beomgye Branch (부엉이산장 범계점), a new and popular bar near Beomgye Station that completely hit the spot—from the atmosphere to the food. If you have been wondering where to grab drinks in Beomgye lately, you have probably heard of it at least once. Its distinctive, warm mountain-lodge interior is hugely popular on Instagram, too. It had been a while since I had gone out with friends for genuinely delicious bar food and drinks, so off we went.

The moment we walked in, the warm, cozy wooden interior really did make us feel as though we had arrived at a mountain lodge. It is a little dark with soft lighting, so selfies come out well—and the vibe is absolutely unreal.

Bubbling gopdoritang at the table

First up was the main event of the day, gopdoritang!! It is served on a burner so you can let it bubble away at the table, and the sight of it alone made me gasp 🤤 It was loaded with tender chicken and rich daechang and gopchang—beef large and small intestines. Bar food can sometimes be a little skimpy on ingredients, but Bueongi Sanjang clearly does not hold back 👏

One spoonful of the broth and... wow. It was pleasantly spicy, with the savory richness of fat rendered from the intestines, and the umami was incredible! It had just the right amount of heat, making it the perfect food to keep the drinks flowing. The chicken was not dry at all, and the seasoning had soaked right through, so I kept exclaiming over every bite. As the broth cooked down, it became even richer—I never had a chance to get tired of it.

The instant I tasted the gopdoritang broth, I thought, “It should be a crime not to order rice with this,” so we immediately got tuna mayo rice! A generous amount of shredded seaweed, tuna, and mayonnaise piled on top—how could that possibly not taste good? We put on sanitary gloves and carefully shaped it into round rice balls. Big ones, ready to go!

It was nutty and delicious on its own—the ultimate savory comfort food—but soaking it in the spicy gopdoritang broth and topping it with a piece of chicken or daechang... this combination is seriously insane. The spice and richness take turns exploding in your mouth, so you absolutely have to order these together! Highly recommended.

Sweet and crisp sweet potato kimchi pancake

And then there was the day’s ultimate surprise, the sweet potato kimchi pancake!! I have had plenty of kimchi pancakes, but this was my first time trying one with sweet potato, so I had to order it... It was truly an all-time great side dish 👏

The golden, crisp kimchi pancake came with sweet, soft sweet potato mousse on top, while shredded sweet potato added a crisp, sweet bite. The sweet-and-salty chemistry between the spicy-tangy kimchi and sweet potato was unbelievable 🥹❤️ The pancake itself was cooked beautifully crisp, and even the sound of biting into its edges was delicious! Its sweet, nutty flavor completely refreshed our mouths after the spicy gopdoritang—the pairing was perfection.

The verdict on all three dishes

This is one of Beomgye Station’s best spots for bar food, with nothing missing: atmosphere, flavor, and value. The gopdoritang + tuna mayo rice + sweet potato kimchi pancake trio is an unbeatable sweet, salty, and spicy combination that cannot fail. If you want substantial food with a drink in a great setting in Beomgye, you absolutely have to visit Bueongi Sanjang Beomgye Branch! I am 1000% coming back ❤️
