What did I eat after shopping at Moda Outlet?

After shopping at Daegu Moda Outlet, I wanted Korean food, so I stopped by Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch (신영웅청국장해물뚝배기 성서모다아울렛점). This time, instead of cheonggukjang or haemul ttukbaegi (seafood stew in an earthenware pot), I chose seafood jjim (braised seafood) and finished with fried rice.

Where is the restaurant, and how did I park?

The address is 1st floor, 27 Seongseogongdan-ro 15-gil, Dalseo-gu, Daegu. It is near Moda Outlet, so it was a convenient stop for a meal before or after shopping.

Location and surroundings of the Seongseo Moda Outlet branch

I used the public parking lot right beside the restaurant. During my visit, the restaurant provided a one-hour free parking voucher, and there were also parking spaces in front of the restaurant.

A large sign in front made the restaurant easy to find. Around the entrance were menu information and the brand's story, including that it has operated since 2008, uses cheonggukjang made with Korean-grown soybeans, and receives seafood early every morning.

What was the seating like for families or groups?

The interior was more spacious than I expected, bright, and tidy. Tables were generously spaced in the wood-toned room, and partitions at each table made the meal feel comfortable. There was also a separate room on one side, which looked suitable for family gatherings or group meals. Even though I went after the main meal period, there were quite a few diners.

There was a self-service side-dish bar, so I could take any side dishes I needed. Each table had a tablet for ordering.

How was the mild seafood jjim?

I ordered the medium Sin Yeongung seafood jjim. Since I do not handle spicy food well, I chose the mild version, and I also ordered fried rice to finish the meal.

Table after ordering Sin Yeongung seafood jjim

The basic side dishes were neatly served and tasted good.

The seafood jjim arrived on a wide iron griddle. It felt substantial, with crisp vegetables alongside squid, octopus, shrimp, mussels, and other seafood. A staff member cut the octopus, squid, and other seafood into easy-to-eat pieces, which was convenient.

The mild sauce was evenly absorbed into the seafood, and I could taste its savory depth from the first bite.

The seafood retained its springy texture. The squid was chewy, while the octopus tasted mild and clean the more I chewed it.

The blue crab was also meaty and mild. I liked being able to alternate among the different kinds of seafood, and the seafood-enhanced sauce seemed like it would go well with rice too.

How was the fried rice after the seafood jjim?

After the seafood jjim, I finished with fried rice.

A staff member took away the griddle with the remaining sauce and made the fried rice. When it returned, it was generously topped with gim powder (dried seaweed flakes).

The seafood jjim sauce had soaked into the rice grains, making it savory and full of umami. The gim powder added a nutty note. I was already somewhat full from the seafood jjim, but the fried rice made it a satisfying meal.

What kind of meal did this suit?

The seafood jjim, with its range of seafood, was good for sharing with several people. The spacious interior, partitioned tables, and separate room also seemed suitable for a family meal or a gathering with friends. Using the public parking lot next door and the free parking voucher was convenient as well.

I ended my meal with seafood jjim and fried rice after shopping. Seafood jjim was the menu item I tried this time, and next time I would like to try the cheonggukjang and haemul ttukbaegi that many other diners were having.
