Korean restaurant in Dalseo, Daegu for medium-spicy haemuljjim

After finishing our morning workout, my friend and I went to Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch (신영웅청국장해물뚝배기 성서모다아울렛점) for haemuljjim (braised spicy seafood) and pajeon. We shared a medium haemuljjim and haemul buchu pajeon (seafood chive pancake), and were too full afterward to order anything else.

Where is it near Seongseo Moda Outlet?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 27 Seongseogongdan-ro 15-gil, Dalseo-gu, Daegu. I visited while looking for somewhere to have lunch near Seongseo Moda Outlet.

Along with haemuljjim and haemul buchu pajeon, there were several ttukbaegi (earthenware pot) dishes.

What are the atmosphere and group seats like?

There were group tables and private rooms, so it looked suitable for family gatherings or work dinners.

It was quite hot on the day I visited, but after exercising I was craving something spicy. My friend and I decided on haemuljjim and headed to the restaurant.

When I went inside, the dining hall was spacious and gave me the impression of being generally well kept. There were also group seats in room-style spaces farther inside.

How were parking and the lunch wait?

I drove there, and parking was convenient. There was space for about five cars directly in front of the restaurant.

During my visit, if the front was full, the rear public parking lot offered one hour of free parking. It was also spacious, making it easy to park.

We arrived at around 11:30 a.m. and went in without waiting. By noon, several parties were waiting as more diners arrived.

What did we order for two?

I briefly considered the cheonggukjang haemul ttukbaegi and live abalone cheonggukjang haemul ttukbaegi after seeing them at the next table. Still, we chose the haemuljjim we had originally planned to eat.

My friend and I ordered a medium haemuljjim at regular spice and haemul buchu pajeon.

How spicy were the regular haemuljjim and seafood chive pancake?

The haemul buchu pajeon arrived first and contained Cheongyang chili peppers. It was spicy enough not to feel greasy and worked well to stimulate my appetite.

To me, the regular-spice haemuljjim felt about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. It was just right for me, but I thought people who handle spicy food well could ask for it spicy.

It was generously filled with seafood including octopus, shrimp, and mussels. The bean sprouts were crunchy too, and my friend and I enjoyed sharing it.

Was the portion enough for two, and was there anything disappointing?

The haemuljjim portion was generous, and with the pajeon we were full. I was not able to try the ttukbaegi dishes I had been curious about this time.

The basic side dishes and seasoning suited my taste, and the food was served neatly. I could take as many extra side dishes as I needed from the self-service side-dish station.

I was a little disappointed that, visiting as two people, we could not order and try more dishes.

My friend and I said that if we came back, we would try the cheonggukjang haemul ttukbaegi.

What stayed with me from this meal were the crunchy bean sprouts in the haemuljjim and the spicy pajeon. The convenient parking also made me feel it would be worth stopping by again when I am near Moda Outlet.
