Pork BBQ with a baby in Gwangalli: marinated pluma add-on, Jukrim

In short

Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui (죽림숯불돼지구이) is an Iberico charcoal pork BBQ restaurant on Gwangnam-ro in Gwangalli, Suyeong, Busan, where staff grill the meat for you. On a weekend evening with a baby, the writer ordered the signature Jukrim Iberico set (pluma, rib meat and alligator cut) with brisket doenjang rice and grilling cheese, then added 4 servings of marinated Iberico pluma. With baby chairs, a booster seat and staff doing the grilling, Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui is an easy Gwangalli BBQ restaurant to visit with a baby.

Exterior of Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui in Gwangalli

We visited Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui, an Iberico pork spot in Gwangalli. True to the name (Jukrim means bamboo grove), the exterior with bamboo and pig figures looks really cool 👍🏻

The owner's heartfelt introduction was impressive.

What comes in the Jukrim Iberico set?

The signature Jukrim Iberico set lets you taste Iberico specialty cuts: pluma, alligator cut and rib meat. There are good-value set menus plus à la carte items and sides, and we went with this Jukrim Iberico set.

Guide on how to enjoy the meat at Jukrim

The table has a guide on how to enjoy the meat at its best.

Table grill where the charcoal goes in at Jukrim

The charcoal goes inside the grill. There's a round section where you can park the meat so it doesn't go cold while you eat. Love it~~

Baby chairs and booster seat at Jukrim

Is this Gwangalli pork BBQ easy to visit with a baby?

Jukrim has two baby chairs and a booster seat too, so it's really nice to come with a baby. There are aprons next to them as well.

Clean, spacious interior of Jukrim

The restaurant is clean and spacious, good for families, and it seems to get a lot of group customers too.

Table with charcoal under a thick grill plate

The charcoal is in!! The grill plate is thick, so even with the charcoal your face doesn't get hot, haha. Some BBQ places get so scorching when the charcoal arrives that it's hard to sit there, but at Jukrim you can eat comfortably.

Side dishes and brisket doenjang rice at Jukrim

The side dishes were seasoned bean sprouts, white kimchi, spring onion salad, Maldon salt, soy-pickled spring onion, salted scallops, ssamjang, wasabi and pickles.

The staff put the garlic and meljeot (salted anchovy sauce) on the grill for you.

The brisket doenjang rice (soybean paste rice pot) is included in the set. It had lots of brisket in it and was rich and so good. It came out before the meat, so next visit I'll ask them to bring it after we've had a bit of meat! Even Bok-sungi, who normally doesn't eat doenjang, enjoyed it, haha.

Why staff-grilled Iberico pork suits parents with a baby

The meat's here~~! Iberico pluma, rib meat and alligator cut came with spring onion, shishito peppers and king oyster mushrooms. The staff grill everything for you, which is so convenient.

When you go out with a baby, grilling meat while looking after the baby is hectic. At a place where they grill for you, you can eat more comfortably, and above all they cook it to just the right doneness, so it tastes even better 🤍

Waiting time ⏱️ Hurry up and cook~~

Grilling cheese on the side grill plate

We tried the grilling cheese too. They told us not to put it on the main grill but to lightly grill it on the side plate. The cheese is, no words,, nutty and delicious 👍🏻

Pluma, rib meat and alligator cut: how the 3 Iberico cuts differ

Iberico rib meat: firm, chewy meat from between the ribs

The rib meat was ready first and they put it on the side. First bite: dip it in Maldon salt! The meat is so good that salt alone is plenty. It's the meat attached to the rib bones, apparently. Crunchy-chewy and delicious.

Iberico pluma: the softest of the three and my top pick

Second was pluma, said to be the softest of the three. Mmm~ my number one pick. So tender, packed with juice, and so good.

Tender, juicy Iberico pluma

Iberico alligator cut: a texture between rib meat and pluma

Last was the alligator cut, which is loin-end meat (deungsim-chuli). The texture is somewhere between the rib meat and the pluma? And the taste is, of course, delicious. It's nice to get three different textures and flavors.

Wrap vegetables aren't served by default; ask the staff separately and they'll bring them! They gave us chili peppers too. Nice

How was the extra marinated Iberico pluma?

After finishing the set meat, we ordered extra marinated Iberico pluma. A thin grill plate goes on when grilling marinated meat.

Marinated pluma~~!! The staff grill it perfectly again.

The marinade wasn't overpowering, just nicely salty and delicious. Putting the grilling cheese on the marinated pluma was sooo good. The spring onion salad, bean sprouts, meljeot and soy-pickled spring onion were all so tasty that I could keep eating meat endlessly.. we ended up adding 4 servings of marinated pluma on top of the Iberico set, haha.

Weekend evening atmosphere at Jukrim and the downsides

We went on a weekend evening and, true to a Gwangalli favorite, customers kept streaming in. There were groups, and lots of families.

I really wanted to try the side dishes kimchi-mari guksu (cold kimchi noodles) and bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), but orders seemed backed up with the crowd, so sadly we didn't get to. Next time!

Great with a baby and really delicious. Highly recommend Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui 👍🏻👍🏻
