I do strength training regularly, so I'm always on the lookout for products that make it easy to get protein in on workout days.

Honestly, plant-based protein products often have a taste I couldn't get past after a few tries. But this time I drank Garu Seonsaeng's Sipping Raw Soy Milk Injeolmi, and it was so nutty and tasty that after having a cup at the gym, I came home and made myself another one.

What's in it? Korean soybeans and unrefined cane sugar

Ingredient list on the back of the product
Labeling showing Korean soybean and unrefined cane sugar content

Checking the ingredient list, it's fairly simple: soybeans 70.3%, unrefined cane sugar 29%, sea salt 0.7%. The main ingredient, soybeans, is Korean, while the unrefined cane sugar is from Thailand.

I didn't taste the unfamiliar note of artificial sweeteners or that lingering sweetness I dislike. It had a mild sweetness that didn't overpower the nuttiness of roasted soybean powder, which I liked.

Dedicated scoop with a MADE IN KOREA marking

The bottom of the included scoop had a 'MADE IN KOREA' stamp. Since it's made with Korean soybeans, and even a small component like the scoop is domestically manufactured, it felt like they paid attention to the details.

How much powder per cup: 2 scoops in 180ml of water

Measuring 2 scoops of soy milk powder with the dedicated scoop

The powder is a light beige, like roasted injeolmi (rice cake coated in soybean flour) bean powder, and the particles felt finely ground. With the dedicated scoop included, I didn't need to weigh anything to measure the right amount.

I added 2 scoops of powder, 30g total, into 180ml of cold water.

Does the powder dissolve in cold water without shaking?

When I added the injeolmi powder to cold water, it spread through the water on its own and started dissolving naturally.

The protein powders I've tried before often didn't dissolve well, so I'd have to shake the shaker up, down, and sideways for a long time just to get it mixed. It was surprising how well this one dissolved even when just left alone for a moment.

Since it mixes into a drinkable state without needing a vigorous, prolonged shake, it was much more convenient to bring along when working out.

What it tastes like in plain water: real injeolmi rice cake

With the first sip, I first tasted the deep nuttiness of roasted soybean powder, followed by a mild sweetness.

What surprised me most was that it didn't just taste like soybean powder mixed in water — it actually tasted like the nutty, sweet flavor of real injeolmi rice cake.

It wasn't overly sweet and didn't leave an artificial aftertaste, so I didn't get tired of drinking it. If you like nutty injeolmi, this soy milk injeolmi drink is something you'd enjoy.

Mixed with milk: a smooth injeolmi latte

After trying it in water, I also tried mixing it with milk.

Stirring the mixture with a scoop to make an injeolmi latte

Adding the injeolmi powder into milk and stirring gently with the scoop, it mixed in smoothly, creating a pale beige injeolmi latte.

Finished pale beige injeolmi latte

While mixing it with water gave a clean, nutty roasted soybean flavor, mixing it with milk added a richer, smoother taste. It tasted like eating real injeolmi rice cake with milk — sweet and nutty — and worked well as a homemade café drink or a filling snack.

When you want a clean, nutty taste, mix it with water; when you want a smoother, richer injeolmi latte, mix it with milk. I liked that one product lets you enjoy two different flavors depending on your mood.

Taking Garu Seonsaeng Injeolmi soy milk to the gym as a protein shake

Drinking the injeolmi soy milk at the fitness center

That day I brought it to the gym to easily get protein in while strength training. Bringing a pre-measured amount in a shaker meant I could just add water and drink it right away.

One 30g serving has 7.4g of protein, which made it useful for workout days or anytime I wanted to get some protein in during the day.

Even after having one cup during my workout, I kept thinking about that nutty injeolmi flavor, so once I got home, I made myself another cup.

Making another cup of injeolmi soy milk at home

Honestly, the plant-based protein products I've tried before sometimes felt like I was forcing myself to have them because the taste wasn't great.

Garu Seonsaeng's Sipping Raw Soy Milk Injeolmi was a product I actually wanted to reach for because it tasted good. What I liked most was that it felt less like drinking a protein product and more like enjoying a nutty injeolmi drink or snack.

Final verdict on Garu Seonsaeng Injeolmi soy milk powder

The nutty flavor of Korean soybeans combined with the mild sweetness of unrefined cane sugar made for an impressively authentic injeolmi rice cake taste.

It comes together easily with just 180ml of water and 2 dedicated scoops, and it was convenient that it dissolved smoothly in cold water without needing to shake.

I'd recommend Garu Seonsaeng's Sipping Raw Soy Milk Injeolmi to anyone who's been disappointed by the taste of plant-based protein products, or who prefers a nutty snack over a plain sweet drink.
