Chuncheon katsu sets to share: shrimp fry and cheese, Jeongseong
In short
Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch is a standalone katsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant near the back gate of Gangwon National University in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon. On a trip through Chuncheon, two of us ordered one set with cheese, tenderloin and loin and another with fried shrimp in place of the cheese, then split both. Jeongseong Katsu is a good stop when you want to compare several cuts of katsu in one meal.

Even while traveling I was craving katsu, so I headed to Jeongseong Katsu, which is known for its well-composed set menus.

Where is Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch, and where do you park?
It's a standalone restaurant near the back gate of Gangwon National University in Chuncheon!

Parking was easy at the Dohwagol public parking lot, a 5-minute walk away. It's currently open for free, which made things even more convenient, and it's huge, so you don't need to worry about finding a spot.

Inside the restaurant: group tables and seating
The interior was really, really clean! I noticed there were three round group tables.

There were a lot of delivery orders, but there are plenty of 2- and 4-seat tables in the dining area too, so I'd recommend eating in!

Every table has paper cups and napkins! The cutlery comes out together with the food on the tray. There was also a generous review event, worth checking out.

Two sets ordered: cheese, tenderloin and loin, plus fried shrimp
When I'm craving katsu, nothing beats a set that lets you try several things at once! This time we ordered one set with cheese katsu, tenderloin, and loin together, and another set with shrimp katsu in place of the cheese katsu, so we could enjoy a variety. There were proper set menus listed, so we didn't even look at the à la carte options haha.

First, the set with cheese, tenderloin, and loin looked delicious just from the presentation!! Sometimes eating just one type of katsu feels a bit lacking, but this way I could compare the flavors of each cut. The loin especially had that clean, nutty flavor katsu is known for, while the tenderloin had a softer, juicier texture — different charms, and I was glad I ordered this menu.

The second set had shrimp katsu instead of cheese katsu, so that was a fun change too. It even had two extra pieces of tenderloin compared to the first set! The shrimp katsu was fried crisp on the outside with a springy texture inside, great for pairing between bites of katsu.

With the shrimp katsu added in too, it felt like enjoying a whole variety of fried dishes at one table — great for sharing when you're dining with someone. We split everything into a really sweet combo!

Tenderloin katsu: crisp outside, juicy inside
The tenderloin's cross-section alone was stunning. It looked soft just from looking at it. And sure enough, it was properly crispy outside and tender inside — I think even kids would eat this up.

Cheese katsu: mild cheese that isn't too rich
Personally, the cheese katsu was what I was most looking forward to. When you cut into the crispy-fried katsu, cheese oozes out from inside — the look alone made my mouth water! The way the cheese stretched while warm was great, and the nutty cheese paired well with the clean flavor of the katsu — the best! The cheese flavor wasn't overpowering, so it wasn't too much to eat alongside the other katsu.

Loin katsu: one bite with wasabi on top
The loin's exterior was extremely crispy, so watch out for scraping the roof of your mouth! I personally like putting wasabi on loin katsu, and it was cut into easy pieces so I could eat it in one bite.

How to use the sauces and the free curry
Dipping in the provided sauce added a sweet, savory note, while eating it plain let the clean flavor of the meat come through — so you could enjoy it different ways depending on your mood! This place also comes with free curry, which works as another kind of sauce, so I'd recommend dipping into that too.

Wrap-up: when Jeongseong Katsu is worth a visit
With a spread like this, it seemed perfect for lunch at a good restaurant in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon. The menu is the kind anyone who likes katsu would enjoy without complaint, making it a good pick for a family meal out or a visit with friends, and a great katsu restaurant to try when you want to taste a variety of cuts all at once. Next time, I'd like to try the menu items we didn't get to this time!
