What kind of restaurant is Maguro Tuna in Hupyeong-dong, Chuncheon?

Maguro Tuna in Hupyeong-dong, Chuncheon is a tuna sashimi restaurant on the 3rd floor of a building on Boan-gil. It's supposedly the first place in Korea to serve kombu-cured tuna sashimi, and the umami really does cling to your mouth — I was hooked 🤤

✨This is So-soju✨ Today I'm introducing Maguro Tuna, a Chuncheon tuna sashimi spot. My husband and I are true tuna lovers 😆 We even share the same birthday, so we usually go eat tuna sashimi to celebrate — but if we love tuna this much, we can't just eat it once a year!!!??? Let's live every day like a birthday!!! So my husband and I headed to Maguro Tuna, a Hupyeong-dong favorite in Chuncheon ❤️

We ordered the 'Jin' course and came back completely satisfied 🫶🏻🫶🏻 Here's my recommendation review of Maguro Tuna, the Hupyeong-dong, Chuncheon spot where you can enjoy top-grade tuna sashimi as a course meal 😎🖤

Parking and seating at Maguro Tuna: private rooms and window seats

Maguro Tuna is located on the 3rd floor of the building 😊 My husband and I had both had this place saved for a while and finally made it here❣️ Already getting excited 🤭

I came by taxi, but if you're driving, you can use the M Tower Building underground parking lot or the empty lot above MS Mart 🚘🚗🚗 Both are free with no time limit, which is convenient 😆

If you want privacy with your group, I recommend the room💕 I wanted to eat with a bit of ambient noise to get the mood up, so I chose the hall! Since I'd made a reservation, the owner had already set us up at a window seat haha

The side dishes that go with top-grade tuna sashimi were all set out! I love eating tuna with baek-kimchi (white napa kimchi) — white kimchi, pickled radish, radish sprouts, pickled rakkyo, garlic scapes, carrots, and wasabi were all neatly arranged 💗

What comes with the ₩53,000 Jin course?

At Maguro Tuna we ordered two Jin courses at ₩53,000 each, plus soju at ₩5,000 and beer at ₩5,000. We went with the 'Jin' course, which lets you eat swordfish (belly), bigeye tuna (belly, collar, head meat), and bluefin tuna (No.4/5 belly, head meat, collar, rib meat, crown meat) all in one meal 😍

Table set after ordering the Jin course

If you need anything before the meal really starts, just ask the staff — they're easygoing about it 😊

We started off with warm tuna porridge 😋 I was genuinely starving 🥲 and having porridge to settle my stomach first felt great 💓

First plate: bluefin tuna belly, bigeye tuna, and swordfish

The first sashimi plate at Maguro Tuna, a Chuncheon tuna favorite, has arrived!!!

The first course kicked off with a lineup of top-grade bluefin tuna belly, bigeye tuna, and swordfish 😆

The owner came over personally to explain how to eat each cut 😊 For leaner cuts, just dip in salt sauce; for the fatty, rich cuts, pile on plenty of wasabi — that's how he explained it haha

Starting with the fin meat, yum 😋 ugh, it really melts in your mouth ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

How can even swordfish, the relatively cheaper cut, taste this good, owner? 🥹🫶🏻 A little wasabi with the salt sauce and I was in ultimate bliss 🤤

Close-up of kombu-cured tuna sashimi

Truly good, top-grade tuna 💗 the aging process maximizes the tuna's natural flavor, so the umami just bursts even more

Salad, braised dish, and tuna sushi served alongside

Eating only tuna could get heavy, but the course is put together so there's always something to refresh your palate in between 👍🏻

Salad, braised dish, and even sushi❣️ We were told to eat the tuna sushi right away, so we dug in immediately 😋

No matter which restaurant you go to, if you eat the way the owner tells you to, you can't go wrong!!! That sushi with the thick slab of tuna on top... I still want more ㅠㅠ Writing this post is exhausting me 😭😭

Moved by the top-tier flavor that just gives you happiness, we clinked glasses with soju 〜 Honestly, the night before, friends had come to visit from Seoul and my husband and I drank until dawn ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ but somehow there's still room for this. There's no such thing as not drinking soju with side dishes this good in my book (firm)

Review event perk: 2 pieces of bluefin belly sushi

Everyone, Maguro Tuna, the Chuncheon tuna favorite, is currently running a review event — participate with a Naver receipt review and get one of the following as a perk.

  • 1 glass of Suntory highball
  • 300ml warm sake decanter
  • 2pcs kombu-cured Mediterranean bluefin tuna belly sushi

I pretty much always join these kinds of events 😝 I joined right away and got 2pcs of the tuna belly sushi — and let me tell you!!!!! Seriously!!!!! This is a must-try‼️ Please, please eat this. It's genuinely so delicious ㅠㅠ Please, please join the review event and please, please eat this belly sushi 🙏🏻

2pcs of bluefin tuna belly sushi received from the review event

How many 'pleases' was that, seriously ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ but honestly, it's that good — melts in your mouth that much, makes your eyes close the moment it hits your tongue, so please try it!!!! Can a review event perk really be this high-quality?⁉️ The owner at Maguro Tuna is way too generous, he'll definitely be rewarded for it 🧧

Calming our startled hearts with more tuna after the belly sushi ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ there was seaweed on every table too, so I unwrapped one and ate it!! 😆

The dishes in between, from macaroni salad to tempura

The Jin course at Maguro Tuna fills the gaps between sashimi plates with other dishes. So you never get tired of eating tuna, they keep bringing out something new in between 😘 This must be the charm of a course meal!!!!

From macaroni salad to grilled fish❗️ We really cleaned it all up haha

Second plate: bluefin head meat and crown meat

Alright, alright, the second tuna course is ready. Head meat and crown meat too❣️ I really love the head meat ㅠㅠ so my husband let me have most of it 🥹 Thank you,, I really feel like I married the right person ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Second plate with tuna head meat and crown meat

Warm soup and a sweet fish dish arrived too ❤️🔥 It was exactly the moment we needed some broth, and once again the timing was perfect. 😚

Bluefin tuna belly is such a fatty cut that even piling this much wasabi on it isn't spicy at all!!! Honestly you could pile on even more ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ the more wasabi you add, the sweeter it actually tastes, so trust me and go heavy on the wasabi!!! The owner came by and said I clearly knew how to eat ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ he said the pricier, better cuts are exactly the ones meant for lots of wasabi, and clapped before walking off ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ hehe, felt proud-! ✌🏻

And warm tempura too! Shrimp, sweet pumpkin, and crab stick tempura came out. I'm a well-known shellfish lover haha so I ate up basically all the shrimp tempura myself >,<💓

Third plate and the closing rice bowl or soba

Still hungry, believe it or not. The third tuna course is ready❣️

The third tuna sashimi course plate
The final tuna sashimi plate composition

I think we just ate this in a total happy blur 🤤🤤 The owner seemed to enjoy seeing how moved and into it we were, and kept smiling while serving us, which I really appreciated haha From now on, Maguro Tuna is our go-to tuna spot in Chuncheon‼️

Even through the third plate we felt real emotion and cleaned every bite 😋 Kept clinking soju glasses the whole way 〜

Egg-roe rice bowl and soba ordered as the final dish

For the final dish, you can choose between an egg-roe rice bowl or soba. I ordered both! My rice-loving husband scraped his stone bowl clean ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ and since I'm more of a noodle person, I finished mine off slurping cold soba refreshingly ❤️

Is Maguro Tuna worth it for tuna sashimi in Chuncheon?

Maguro Tuna, a tuna sashimi specialist in Hupyeong-dong, Chuncheon, serves top-grade tuna across three full rounds of a course meal, and left a true tuna lover completely satisfied. From now on, Maguro Tuna is officially my Chuncheon tuna spot‼️ I've truly settled on it..👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The composition was great — new dishes kept coming so you never got tired of tuna. The owner is kind and the restaurant has a clean, upscale vibe, making it a great choice for special occasions too 😍 Owner, I'll be back again soon!!!!!

For anyone looking for a Chuncheon tuna favorite that a local has settled into, I recommend Maguro Tuna 🥰 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
