Jeju soup restaurant for a 6:30pm dinner: Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi
In short
Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is a haejangguk (Korean hangover soup) restaurant one road across from Hyeopjae Beach in Hallim-eup, Jeju. On a 6:30pm dinner reservation the writer ordered bomal haejangguk (sea snail soup) for ₩13,000, deep hanwoo beef blood haejangguk for ₩11,000 and a kids' hanwoo beef haejangguk for ₩6,000, and that single kids' bowl was enough for two children to share. Children's spoons, small plates, seaweed and forks all arrived first, making Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi an easy Hyeopjae dinner with kids.

Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi, a Hyeopjae Beach favorite in Jeju Clear bomal (sea snail) haejangguk, kids' haejangguk, and blood haejangguk

I've been writing up reviews since coming back from my Jeju trip. It was pretty exhausting, but I keep thinking about all the food we ate there 🖤

The place I'm introducing today was really, really delicious, and honestly the owner's kindness and thoughtfulness had me completely won over!

Where Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is and what dinner feels like
Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is a haejangguk (hangover soup) restaurant on Hyeopjae 2-gil in Hallim-eup, Jeju. It's not directly on the Hyeopjae Beach strip, but just a short walk across.

We reserved and visited around 6:30pm, and customers kept steadily coming in — a lot of solo diners too.

Also, right now there's an event called Matdong Yeojido running — from September 16 to October 15, anyone in Jeju or Busan who (1) reserves and visits and (2) writes a review gets Naver points, so definitely check it out.

Kiosk ordering and the self-serve banchan bar
At Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi you order via a kiosk at the table. There was only one female owner running the floor, but she was so fast! And thoughtful too — she brought kid-sized spoons right away, and gave the kids their seaweed first.

Extra side dishes are self-serve, so I went to check out the bar.

See how spotless the self-serve bar is? It makes customers a bit more careful too, which is great 👍🏻

Is one kids' haejangguk enough for two children?
The kids' hanwoo beef haejangguk at Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is ₩6,000, and the portion was generous enough for two kids to share. With two children, I wondered if I should order two bowls — but one was plenty.
That's Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi's generosity for you — serving it hearty enough that one bowl is enough ✨

This is how the basic table setting was laid out. Seaweed stem side dish my husband loves, and salted seafood I love — honestly you could eat a whole bowl of rice on just this.

When the kids' haejangguk came out, they'd already prepared small plates ahead of time so the two kids could share easily.

And worried the kids might not have side dishes they liked, they gave seaweed too, plus a fork for our Oni, who can't use chopsticks properly yet . . 🍴

How does the ₩13,000 Hyeopjae bomal haejangguk taste?
The Jeju Hyeopjae bomal haejangguk (sea snail soup) at Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is ₩13,000. It's said to be a soup with a fresh seafood base and plenty of Jeju sea snails, so refreshing you become a regular after one bowl.
Honestly I ordered it without even knowing what bomal was, but the soup had a bit of a clam-soup feel, refreshing yet spicy-sharp, ah 👍🏻 It was loaded with chives too, which my husband loves — he said he came to cure his hangover but this makes him want to drink more.

Adding minced garlic and hot pepper made it even more, more, more, more delicious. I was so surprised . . turns out I actually like bomal . .
Deep hanwoo blood haejangguk, ₩11,000: mixing in the seasoning
Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi's deep hanwoo beef blood haejangguk is ₩11,000. It's said to be a soup with a deep, rich broth simmered from Korean beef bones, combined with soft blood and meat.
It doesn't come out red from the start — at first it's clear (haha) — but then they quickly stir in what looks like a black seasoning from behind, and it turns into the haejangguk we all know.

I debated between the tripe soup and the blood one, but thanks to choosing the blood soup I got to enjoy plenty of that chewy, bouncy blood. The broth was so refreshing too! I wondered if I'd ever had a blood haejangguk like this even in Pohang.

Kids' hanwoo beef haejangguk, ₩6,000
The kids' hanwoo beef haejangguk is ₩6,000 — a mild, non-spicy soup with clean bone broth, meat, and bean sprouts, so our kid ate it without any fuss.
Two kids finished off the kids' haejangguk with kimchi on the side and even mopped up the broth at the end — quite the Hyeopjae favorite, haha.

Our schedule was too packed to properly enjoy Hyeopjae Beach, so next time I go I'm definitely, definitely going back to Hyeopjae — and knowing there's a restaurant I can trust makes it all the more reassuring ❤️❤️
