Gangnam Chinese restaurant for jjamppong rice: Jjamppong Jijon
In short
Jjamppong Jijon Yeoksam Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, between Yeoksam and Gangnam stations. We shared jjamppong rice, crab fried rice, and tangsuyuk, then enjoyed the self-serve sides and desserts. Verdict: the generous spicy broth and old-school-style fried rice made a satisfying meal.

Jjamppong Jijon between Yeoksam and Gangnam stations
My husband and I had something to do around Gangnam this time and were looking for somewhere to eat. I have Chinese food now and then, and it makes for such a filling lunch—and I was really craving jjamppong that day, so this is where we came!

Jjamppong Jijon
The address is 21 Teheran-ro 10-gil, Gangnam-gu. It is about equally close to both Yeoksam Station and Gangnam Station, so it was easy to get to from whichever station you get off at.
And parking in Gangnam is difficult, but this place has a parking lot and apparently offers valet parking, too!! That may be why it seems so popular for company dinners!

Take the stairs up to the second floor. There is a terrace in front of the restaurant, so you could grab dessert and chat there for a little while.
We arrived almost right at opening, so I was able to take photos of the quiet interior. It gets really busy here at lunch, though. Haha.

It felt neat and pleasant during the day, with natural light making it feel even brighter. I think the lighting would make for an even nicer atmosphere in the evening.

Table ordering, the menu, and the self-serve corner
We settled in here, and I found that we could do everything from ordering to paying at the table-order system!

There were yuringi (fried chicken with tangy sauce), kkangpung shrimp, fried eggplant, and cream shrimp. I heard the fried eggplant here is delicious, too.

They also had fried dumplings, menbosha (fried shrimp toast), and jjamjjamyeon, a half-jjamppong, half-jjajangmyeon dish. The jjamjjamyeon was ₩14,000.
- Jjamppong: ₩13,000
- Sundubu: ₩14,000
- Sujebi: ₩13,000
- Rice noodles: ₩13,000
For rice dishes, there were jjamppong, sundubu, and crab options, so we chose jjamppong rice and crab fried rice.

You can also add noodles, sundubu, sujebi, or jjamppong broth at a reasonable price. We headed to the self-serve corner for basic side dishes! Danmuji (yellow pickled radish) comes as standard, but there were more choices at the self-serve corner.

I could not pass up zhacai (pickled mustard stem) and Korean-made kimchi. We filled a plate each.

There were onions, of course, and even rice. (Oh!!) There were small plates and hair ties as well, so I picked some up. Such a thoughtful touch.

There was yuzu tea and maesil tea (green plum tea) for dessert, too.

There was even a coffee machine, so you could finish with something to cleanse your palate.

So we went back to our table and chatted for a moment, and before we knew it, the food had arrived!
A Yeoksam-dong favorite for company dinners: Jjamppong Jijon

Jjamppong rice, tangsuyuk, and crab fried rice
Our food arrived. We ordered two rice dishes and added tangsuyuk (Korean sweet-and-sour fried pork) to share. It looked so good, right? Let’s taste it.

Even though we ordered jjamppong rice, it looked like such a substantial portion—as though it had noodles in it.

It was packed with assorted vegetables and seafood. Even though we chose the mild version, the broth was spicy and full of savory flavor. I am absolutely a rice person, and it went so well with rice. It was also a great combination with the fried rice. The fried rice does come with broth, of course, but it was just slightly different!

Partway through, I thought, “I could finish all of this,” and mixed all my rice right into it. And I was eating with my husband, who usually eats small portions, too. Haha.
Half sauce-poured, half sauce-dipped tangsuyuk
Half the tangsuyuk came with the sauce poured over it, while the other half was for dipping. True to the glutinous-rice description, it was chewy, and the sauce was thick, sweet, and so delicious. It was a special side dish that really woke up the appetite.
Crab fried rice with jjajang

I ordered it because I had been wanting Chinese-style fried rice for the first time in a while. It came with jjajang (black bean sauce) to eat alongside, plus jjamppong broth.
What is more, the jjamppong broth even had solid ingredients in it, and this version was a bit spicier!
I mixed it with the jjajang, and every grain of rice had a lovely texture. It paired so well with the sweet, salty, rich jjajang sauce. After going to lots of fusion Chinese restaurants, I was really satisfied to have a meal at a proper old-school-style Chinese restaurant like this.
For anyone working around Yeoksam or Gangnam Station looking for a place with a wide range of dishes, a comfortable atmosphere, and parking, I recommend Jjamppong Jijon Yeoksam Branch (짬뽕지존 역삼점)! :)
