I'd tried several branches of Songnim Bok Jangeo before and liked them, so it stuck in my memory. I was nearby and happily spotted the Ansan City Hall direct store, so I stopped in!

Since I'd already eaten at another branch, I had expectations for the taste and the spread — and sure enough, being able to eat as much eel as I wanted without worrying about cost was the best part!

If you want to eat eel until you're properly full in Ansan, this is the place! I'd already liked Songnim Bok Jangeo from other branches and was curious about the Ansan one — coming here confirmed it, 👍👍 This is the place that instantly comes to mind when I want to eat eel to my heart's content.

The interior is very clean! Service was quick and friendly too :) Since it's an eel all-you-can-eat spot, plenty of people were there.

Menu

Songnim Bok Jangeo's biggest draw is of course the unlimited freshwater eel! At the Ansan City Hall direct store, the adult all-you-can-eat menu also lets you enjoy whole pork belly and chicken neck alongside the eel!

When you're eating eel for a while, sometimes you crave something else, and here you can grill pork belly or chicken neck too, so a group with different tastes can still all be happy!

It's really a good setup for eel lovers and meat lovers to visit together, haha. The quality is genuinely great :)

Bokbunja wine and eel cleaned fresh every day

And the newly opened direct store's bokbunja wine! This was a personally welcome surprise on this Ansan visit. I'd heard some newly opened direct stores serve bokbunja wine too, and having actually tried it, it was way better than expected.

Fresh eel, cut daily! One reason I love Songnim Bok Jangeo is that instead of using frozen-and-thawed eel, they cut live eel fresh every day.

How to grill the eel, and how it tastes

They said the eel is brought in every morning from an eel farm or wholesale market and cut fresh. On the grill, the eel flesh was thick and springy, with really good chew, haha.

The texture changes depending on how you grill the eel, so at first I ate it golden and lightly cooked, then later grilled it a bit crispier to suit my taste!

Eating eel and then switching to pork belly and chicken neck! Just eating eel is nice, but being able to grill other meats in between was quietly fun too. The pork belly, grilled golden, was savory and a completely different flavor from the eel — great to alternate between.

Duck neck too: is Songnim Bok Jangeo right for a Gojan-dong group dinner?

You can also enjoy chewy duck neck, so going eel → pork belly → duck neck kept the grill busy the whole time. Since it's all-you-can-eat, you can keep adding as much as you want, which should make it especially satisfying for a group.

Grilled eel with bokbunja wine... the pairing really works, and having a glass alongside the grilled meats lifted the whole meal's mood 👍👍
