Paju Unjeong dumpling spot: hot pot & take-home soup kit, Bubyeokjeong

In short

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu (부벽정평양만두) Unjeong is a Pyeongyang-style dumpling restaurant on Jimok-ro in Paju, near Lotte Outlets Paju. On a weekend lunch, the writer joined the Catch Table waitlist, waited a little over 30 minutes, ate the Pyeongyang mandu hot pot (dumpling jeongol) for 2, then took home a packaged Pyeongyang mandu soup and cooked it the next day. Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu satisfied on both counts: a clean, mild-broth dumpling hot pot and a take-home product that recreates the restaurant's flavor at home.

I couldn't decide on a weekend lunch, so I visited Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu (부벽정평양만두) in Unjeong 😄 I like dumplings anyway, and it's famous as a Paju Lotte Outlets restaurant, so I'd wanted to try it. I happened to be nearby, so I finally went.

To start with the conclusion: I could see right away why so many people come here.

Is parking easy at Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu in Unjeong?

There's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant, so even on a weekend it was easy to park. That big lot was the first thing I liked, haha. On weekends, parking stress at popular restaurants is common, but here it was comfortable 😊

Since lots of people come by car, being able to visit without worrying about parking is a real plus 👍 If you're looking for a restaurant near Paju Lotte Outlets, it's also in a great spot to stop by before or after shopping, haha

How do you register for the weekend lunch wait?

Enter your phone number and party size on the Catch Table device at the entrance, and you'll get your turn by KakaoTalk message. As you'd expect from a famous Unjeong restaurant, there was a wait at lunchtime 🥹

The notice said each party takes about 2–2.5 minutes on average. If the wait gets long, you get KakaoTalk alerts, so waiting was comfortable.

Misutgaru and nostalgic snacks in the dessert zone while you wait

The waiting area has nostalgic snacks and misutgaru (a roasted multigrain drink) that waiting guests can help themselves to. I spotted snacks I ate as a kid and was weirdly happy 😊 Little touches like this seem to leave a good impression on guests.

You pour the misutgaru into a cup yourself, and it was thicker and nuttier than I expected. I think it was the most popular thing in the dessert zone, haha. It was nice to sip while waiting in the hot weather, and thanks to this thoughtful service the wait felt a little less boring.

The dining room is spacious and full of families

It was a weekend lunch, so we finally got in after a little over 30 minutes of waiting! 🥹 The dining room was much bigger and more pleasant than I expected.

The big windows made it feel open, and there were so many families and guests with kids. Everything was kept neat and clean, so it felt comfortable to eat 😊

At Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu we ordered the Pyeongyang mandu hot pot (mandu jeongol) for 2, and also bought a packaged Pyeongyang mandu soup (mandutguk, dumpling soup) to eat at home 😊

There was a booklet on how to eat it best, so we could just follow along 😊

One dumpling from the Pyeongyang mandu hot pot lifted out
Thin-wrapper Pyeongyang mandu and hot pot broth

The mandu wrappers were thin and soft, and the filling was packed yet moist. After trying it, I understood why so many people recommend it as a Paju dumpling restaurant! It's the kind of dish where the flavor of the ingredients comes through rather than heavy seasoning, so it was easy to eat.

The broth was really satisfying too! Clean yet deep, and it went well with the dumplings. It's a mild flavor you don't get tired of, so I enjoyed it to the very end. If you like clean soupy dishes more than strongly seasoned food, I think you'll be happy with it 👍

What can you buy at the Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu takeout corner?

At the Unjeong branch you can take out a range of items: Pyeongyang mandu soup (2 servings), Pyeongyang mandu hot pot (2 servings), a plate of mandu, mung bean pancake (bindaetteok) and more. After eating I looked around the takeout corner, and there were lots of packaged products so you can enjoy the dishes from the restaurant at home too.

The packaged items were neatly displayed in a refrigerated case. Plenty of customers seemed to be buying, and many people take something home after their meal. The prices were laid out clearly, which was handy.

Boiling the Pyeongyang mandu soup kit at home

I boiled the Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang mandu soup at home the next day, and it was more satisfying than I expected. The broth tasted clean and the dumplings were generous, reminding me of what I ate at the restaurant.

Following the instructions, it was done in no time! What I liked most was being able to enjoy it again at home without going far.

Verdict: who is Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu in Unjeong for?

The Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu Unjeong branch I visited this time was satisfying not just for the food but also for the service and convenience. The big parking lot, the easy waiting system, misutgaru and nostalgic snacks for waiting guests, the tidy self-bar, and the mild mandu hot pot all added up to a high overall score.

I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a restaurant near Paju Lotte Outlets, a proper Paju dumpling restaurant, or an Unjeong restaurant that's good for a family meal. Having visited, I can see why it's popular enough to have a wait on weekends. 😊
