With the summer heat building, I wanted eel to recharge, and while searching I found a tidy eel place near Sagajeong Station, so I went with my boyfriend! As everyone says, the eel was in great condition, the side dishes were neat, and the service was lovely, so we were doubly happy. This is Cheonsangae Jangeoga Myeonmok Sagajeong Branch (천상애장어가 면목사가정점).

When is the best time to visit Cheonsangae Jangeoga near Sagajeong Station?
The restaurant is often full on weekends, so I recommend a weekday evening. Near Sagajeong Station, Cheonsangae is known for using Korean-raised Japonica eel, so you get tasty eel at a reasonable price. Because it's so popular, I went on a weekday evening. Then you can enjoy great eel in a comfortable dining room 😋😋

Book on Naver and your table is set when you arrive
I booked ahead on Naver, and when we arrived the table was already set. Touched all over again,, 🤍

The side dishes were ginger and garlic, plus pickles of garlic, chives and perilla leaves, and wild ginseng!

How to order at Cheonsangae Jangeoga, plus free extras and discounts
First, order a set per person and your order is done! After that, you only need to order extra eel haha

After the meal, the nurungji tea (scorched rice tea) is free, so don't forget to finish with it!
Another touching thing: pregnant women and seniors get a free extra eel! And police officers and firefighters get 10% off 🤍🤍

They even give seasoned seaweed flakes for kids,, isn't this seriously family-friendly?? I super duper recommend Cheonsangae for a family meal out!!!

Do you grill the eel yourself at Cheonsangae Jangeoga?
To keep good eel at a reasonable price, you grill it yourself at Cheonsangae. There's a friendly explanation of how to grill it well, so do check it!

And one more good point haha: a self-bar where you can help yourself!!!! It's kept so tidy, so how could you not trust the food!!!
Japonica eel grilled by staff over Yeoju charcoal
Before the meal properly begins, this is the famous Yeoju charcoal. As you've probably seen in other reviews, it was so beautiful that it felt like a waste to grill only eel on it. Grilled over this, how could it not be delicious.

We came at a quiet weekday evening hour, so the staff grilled the eel for us. After a tough day at work, being served like this blew away all the stress~~~
The eel came out so gorgeous. See the size?? Two beautifully prepared eels!!! It's been a while since I've seen eel this nice.
They grilled it golden brown, and the staff prepped the eel and even added wood ear mushrooms, so touched again 🫶🏻

Very well-prepared eel with no fishy taste at all. They cut it neatly and set it out so it was easy to eat.

How much is eel dinner for two at Cheonsangae Jangeoga?
At Cheonsangae Jangeoga Myeonmok Sagajeong Branch, a meal for two comes to under ₩80,000. How many places in Seoul serve eel of this quality?

Wrapped once in pickled perilla leaf, once in lettuce, then with garlic and ginger, the eel tasted so sweet,, 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Summer energy, properly refilled.

Spicy salted oysters, doenjang stew, charcoal potatoes and nurungji tea to finish
It's not just the eel: the eori-gul-jeot (salted oysters) and doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) are great too!!!!! The salted oysters make you want to order a bowl of rice and mix it in, and the stew had a healthy, not-too-salty flavor.

To finish, I took out the potato roasting on the charcoal for some carbs. The real finish, of course, is rice,, I rinsed my mouth with nurungji tea and headed home.
A place for a proper meal with careful side dishes, not just eel. A place to enjoy domestic Japonica eel at a reasonable price. With parents, family gatherings, kids or a partner, Cheonsangae is great with anyone!
