Myeongji, Busan mulhoe spot beating the queue at 11am: Suseong Susan
In short
Suseong Susan is a mulhoe (Korean cold raw-fish soup) restaurant by the seafront in Sinho-dong (Myeongji), Gangseo, Busan. Because Suseong Susan always has a wait, the blogger arrived at the 11am opening and ordered the halibut and flounder half-and-half mulhoe (₩20,000) on the table-order screen; the sashimi came on a separate plate so the portion was easy to check, with thick-cut fish and a pleasantly sweet-sour broth. Compared with a mulhoe place in Sacheon the family had visited, Suseong Susan offered a similar portion, a slightly lower price and more upscale side dishes.

Why I went to Suseong Susan for mulhoe in Myeongji, Gangseo, Busan
Suseong Susan (수성수산) is a mulhoe restaurant on the seafront side, across from Sinho-dong Buyoung Apartments Complex 2 in Gangseo, Busan. It's getting hotter and more humid these days! Maybe it's the weather, but I'd lost my appetite and kept craving something cold. So I looked up which Gangseo restaurants in Busan do good mulhoe and ended up at Suseong Susan!
The sea is right in front of Suseong Susan, so it's a great spot for a walk after eating. :) Or you can stroll over for a meal. Haha.

Is an open-run enough to beat the Suseong Susan wait?
Suseong Susan opens at 11am, and I'd heard there's always a wait, so I went right at opening (an "open-run"). A little after I ordered, customers kept streaming in without end! It's a Gangseo, Busan mulhoe spot that always has a line, so I'm glad I went at opening.

Suseong Susan mulhoe menu and prices
The menu is short and centered on mulhoe, so choosing was easy! You order on the table-order screen set up at each table.
- Halibut and flounder half-and-half mulhoe ₩20,000
- Halibut mulhoe ₩19,000
- Flounder mulhoe ₩19,000
They also have sashimi bibimbap (rice bowl with raw fish) and abalone porridge!

Restrooms and disposable aprons
The restrooms are around to the right as you go out. They're separate for men and women rather than unisex, which I liked.
While eating mulhoe, the broth can splash and get on your clothes. If you want a disposable apron, there are some on the partition at the entrance! Just grab one yourself.

Halibut and flounder half-and-half mulhoe: how does it compare with a Sacheon mulhoe place?
We ordered the halibut and flounder half-and-half mulhoe (₩20,000). It came out faster than I expected.

My family likes mulhoe, so we've tried quite a few places. The seafood mulhoe we paid for ourselves in Sacheon was the best, but it's far away so we couldn't go often. The portion at Suseong Susan is similar to that place, but Suseong Susan is a little cheaper. And the side dishes are fancier here. Haha.

Side dishes with the mulhoe
- Acorn jelly (dotorimuk)
- Stir-fried fish cake
- Stir-fried king oyster mushrooms
- Sweet braised soybeans (kongjaban)
- Abalone
- Thin wheat noodles (somyeon)
- Steamed rice
- Seaweed soup

How did the Suseong Susan mulhoe taste?
Unlike other mulhoe restaurants in Busan, Suseong Susan served the halibut and flounder on separate plates. I liked being able to see the amount of fish with my own eyes.
Once I put the fish into the bowl, it looked so generous! Just looking at it feels refreshing.

I mixed it up and tasted it, and the halibut and flounder at Suseong Susan were thick and springy. The more I chewed, the more I got a nutty, savory depth and a chewy texture. It wasn't thin, limp sashimi, so I was happy!

Mulhoe broth mixed with noodles and rice
I also added the thin noodles and white rice and mixed it all together. It goes really well with the mulhoe broth?! The broth is sweet and sour, with a cool, refreshing kick! Some places are too sweet and some are just too sour, but the broth at Suseong Susan is pleasantly sweet-sour, so the vegetables and fish flavor weren't buried!

I could enjoy a range of flavors and textures, from the mild fish to the crunchy vegetables. 👉 Now I see why there's always a wait, weekday or weekend!

A Myeongji mulhoe that works as a full meal
The mulhoe portion and side dishes at Suseong Susan were generous enough for a full meal! I came thinking of it as a light specialty, but left super full and satisfied. For Busan Myeongji mulhoe, it wasn't fishy at all and was incredibly fresh! If you're looking for cool, tasty mulhoe in Myeongji, Gangseo, Busan, I recommend Suseong Susan. ❤️
